where to find a "real" appliance manual . .

you know, the kind the mechanics use . . .

the one that came with my fridge is utterly worthless.

dh placed a bag of frozen chicken in the fridge - except, he just placed it in there and didn't put it on something.  needless to say, it leaked all over.  I've cleaned out the inside thoroughly - but I think it got in the air filter, or drip tray  - except, I've no idea how to replace them, or if they even have them and the owners manual doesn't even refer to them.

so . . . anyone know a good source?  it's only a couple years old, ge profile counter-depth French door.

so far, I haven't found anything on youtube that is pertinent to my fridge.

I've found mine by googling the complete model number and the term "service manual" for the schematics. Also I've had good luck googling the problem and my make/model. Oftentimes the exact answer I need pops up on a diy site. Then I just order the part(s) I need and look for a good YouTube video.

I didn't think to add 'service' to manual, but it still only wants to give the owners manual.  in three languages.  the only thing it gives instructions to replace is the water filter. . . .

I'm not having much luck with youtube either.  all different models  - mostly older ones for cleaning coils. or a fridge that's too warm.  or advertising.  lots of advertising about how wonderful their product is.  and - how to change a water filter.

I need to know how to take apart the inside guts that owners aren't supposed to touch.  . . . bolts and screws and filters . . . I really think there is an air filter somewhere that needs to be replaced.   some of which I would be much happier with a repair manual with those schematics.  so far - nada.

A thousand times, this. Gotta love the internet!

I have also solved problems by typing in my problem as a question "how do I replace the drip tray in my XYZ fridge" and all sorts of things pop up.

oh, and I did find one "ask your questions" site - and they wanted $28 just to get an answer.

Keep searching. I would never pay for something like that.

Sometimes the folks down at Lowe's or Home Depot know the answers, too, as many of them are DIYers. Older neighbors/friends, too. You know...guys who like to tinker.
