wendybern
Has anyone had experience with a good residential treatment high school in Florida? We are sadly looking for a place for dd17 -- bipolar, drug use, out of control. I'm scared to just pick a place without recommendations -- we want something genuinely compassionate and successful. Help?
Ipsey
I'm sorry I don't have any ideas, but I hope you'll get some good suggestions. It sounds very scary, and I hope you'll have peace and your dd will have a good recovery. :grouphug:
Tsuga
Sorry to hear you are going through that. Good luck to your daughter. I don't know of any place but wanted to bump your thread. I hope you all get the help you need.
WagsWife
I don't know much about it, but we are friends with a family, who help to run Lighthouse Children's Home. http://www.lighthousechildrenshome.com I am sorry you are having to look into this :(
ElizabethB
Not a school, but I know people familiar with Mercy Ministries and like the program. It is a Christian program. http://www.mercyministries.org/who_we_are/about/locations.html They do work with the girls and young women towards their educational goals, but I do not know the specifics of how they do that. umsami
No idea, but living in FL, I fear there are far more bad programs than good. Is there a school counsellor or psychologist you could ask for a recommendation?
Halcyon
a young relative attended a program in colorado which was excellent but not cheap. pm me if you're interested in the name.
Catherine
The only program I know about that is well-regarded is this: http://www.montanaacademy.com/WELCOMEHOME.aspx I am fortunate not to have had an personal experience with it. I'd guess it's very expensive. Hope you find help for your daughter. The man who supervises it also wrote 2 books about raising teens that I find very helpful: http://www.amazon.com/An-Unchanged-Mind-Immaturity-Adolescence/dp/1590561244/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362178255&sr=8-1&keywords=unchanged+mind http://www.amazon.com/To-Change-Mind-Parenting-Teenagers/dp/1590562348/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362178492&sr=8-1&keywords=to+change+a+mind Both are helpful, IMO. fairfarmhand
This is not a school. but a children's home. The kids attend school (or at least when I lived nearby) at local Christian/public schools. Some of the kids in the home went to my high school. The program seemed good and the house parents were nice, at least from a teens point of view. The kids I went to school with seemed fairly happy and well-adjusted, despite their situations. http://www.familyministriesfl.org/residential_program.aspx
MooCow
Shenandoah Ministry has two, but I think they're in East Tennessee.
mom2jjka
Our church's synod (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) has a residential school in Mulberry, Florida for troubled teens. I don't personally know anyone who has gone there, but one of their staff came to speak about it to our local church and it seems like a very disciplined yet compassionate ministry. http://www.calvaryacademy.net/

TechWife
Mercy Ministries - they have several locations. I don't have personal experience with them, but I have heard a lot of good things about them.
