(I would have her join us for the BF study.) I'm still in the brainstorming stage. and for the record, we would take a break from the history cycle, so I'm wide open...... Three of the four books of the study cover US geography, and one covers a few of the larger nations in the world: 1. Paddle to the Sea = (timeless, but reference to events from mid 20th cent.) = Great Lakes/St. Lawrence River states (and some Canada) 2. Tree in the Trail = (pre-1500s to mid 20th cent.) history/geog. of the Santa Fe trail = Great Plains and SW states 3. Minn of the Mississippi = (early 1800s to mid 20th cent.) history/geog. = Mississippi River states 4. Seabird = (early 1800s to mid 20th cent.) 150 years of ships/sailing = Nantucket USA, Greenland, India, China, Japan How about a special focus on your state: - lots of road trips to historical monuments, state parks, landmarks, natural wonders, early buildings or settlements, etc. (whole family can enjoy this) - civics, with a day at the state capitol, - learn counties/capitals - culture and history of Native peoples of your state - combine with science for a focus on the plants/animals of your state How about a year of focus on famous Americans (esp. tied in with any mentioned in the BF Geography, or who were instrumental in any of the states in the BF Geography? Read a lot of biographies and do some oral presentations, a power point, and some research papers. If possible, visit any special museums or historic sites having to do with any of them that are in your area. What is your 7th grader interested in? :) We did a DIY world culture/geography and comparative religions course when DSs were grades 7/8 that was a great break from History for a year that laid a very helpful foundation for later high school History and Worldview studies. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

FO4UR Posted February 27, 2015 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Anne of Green Gables is an excellent idea. I think 7th grade is the perfect age for it. You could extend her studies around AGG. I remember 8fillstheHeart talking about an AGG study with Where the Brook and River Meet. Also, I've not tried it yet but Halliburton is on my list for my future (next year!!
