mom31257
If you've used this course, I would like to get some advice because I've never used it. I am going to be teaching it in a co-op next year. The co-op only meets every other week, and I'll have 1.5 hours for the class. Should I do any experiments before the students read and do the chapter at home or following the work in the chapter and right before the tests? I am hoping to review the current chapter as well as introduce the next chapter, so is this possible in that time frame? Thanks for any help or suggestions! clementine
Our co-op meets weekly, but here is how their schedule runs. Week 1 - Student has read 1/2 of chapter 1 at home. In class lecture, labs & discussion about assignments. Week 2 - Student has read the rest of chapter 1 at home. Turn in homework, lecture & labs. Week 3 - Student has read 1/2 of chapter 2 at home. Takes Chapter 1 Test in class. Lecture & labs. Week 4 - Student has read the rest of chapter 2 at home. Turn in homework, lecture & labs. And so on.... I know that ours meets weekly, but maybe this will help. I would say it's helpful if the students have read the chapter before labs.
mom31257
Any other co-op users out there want to chime in? I had one person tell me to do the labs before beginning the chapter since we are meeting every other week. I am trying to figure out how to schedule the students reading through another chapter before testing over the current one if they need to read it before doing the experiments. I could see class going one of these ways. If someone has third or fourth options, I'd love to see them. #1 Review for the current chapter's test Introduce the next chapter Do the next chapter's experiments so they can mentally refer back to it when they do the chapter at home #2 Review for the current chapter's test Do the experiments as we get to the review of the material with each experiment, to reinforce the concept

We meet weekly for an hour and a half. (I am not the teacher.) I think that you are a bit hard-pressed to get a lot accomplished meeting every other week. I would focus on labs. Parents give the tests and grade them at our co op. I think that doing labs before reading the chapter takes away the context for the labs so I would do them after the chapter is read.
