BrandonMommy
Can anyone give me any good suggestions for living books to teach history for the K-3 age group?
Chelli
I wrote a blog post recently about 13 living book history series. They are more of the type of books you would use as spines, but there might be something there of interest. Another recommendation I would suggest is to purchase All Through the Ages by Christine Miller. She has compiled huge lists of living books that cover all time periods and they are broken down by ages/reading level. Well worth having if you want to use living books for history. Mrs. Y
The $5. booklet Turning Back the Pages of Time is a really good resource.
ALB
Is there a specific time period or location you are interested in? Guesthollow is another place with some good resources for both US history and ancients. A while back I had considered using A Child's History of the World as a spine with picture books and read alouds as we went through it. ALB
Someone here once said they used the SOTW Activity Guide just for book suggestions (and maybe crafts), but didn't actually read from SOTW. There are some good literature options listed that go along with most chapters. A downside is that not all the books are equally appropriate for different ages, and it's hard to tell just from the descriptions in the AG.
