See the subheading "Publications" in the Wikipedia article on Peter Pan, but it looks like:

Peter Pan, Or, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up (1904) = original play

Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (1906) = origin story of infant Peter flying away from home and befriending fairies

Peter and Wendy (1911) = novelization of the play and some events of Barrie's sequel, An Afterthought

The standard version you're looking for is now just entitled Peter Pan (it is what was originally entitled Peter and Wendy).

Peter Pan in Scarlet is one of the many "spin-offs" written by later other authors -- this particular one is by Geraldine McCaughrean (known esp. on these boards for her version of The Canterbury Tales). It was published in 2006 and is marketed as "the official sequel" as a selling strategy; Geraldine McCaughrean was the winning author in the contest by the publisher to write a follow-up work. Another well-known recent series is by Dave Barry (no relation to J.M. Barrie), and his Peter and the Starcatchers series.

For background info and study guide resources, I never found much out there -- most guides are for elementary ages watching a live stage production, rather than for middle/high school students reading the novel. But, here are a few things that might be of help:

- BBC: J.M. Barrie -- article on the author

- Wikipedia: J.M. Barrie -- article on the author

- Wikipedia: Peter Pan -- article on the work

The Annotated Peter Pan (Tatar)

- Core Knowledge: lesson plan outlines (for grade 2, but you might find something to adapt upwards)

- discussion questions (for middle/high school)

- download a K-12 study guide (for middle school)

Good luck in putting together your class! :) Warmest regards, Lori D.
