We cannot name the baby boy

9 weeks left. I am due in 9 weeks actually, but a repeat c-sect so possibly earlier. Regardless.....

We have had 6 boys. That means we have already used 12 days. We do not prefer to use unusual names, but are open to names that might be unusual in the US but common to our heritage. Like, I had a great great grandparent named Signy so we seriously considered it for our last daughter, even though it is not common here in the US.

We also prefer not to use names that rhyme with names we currently have, nor do we want to use names from our own families, and in my case, my cousins. I am very close to my cousins so I do not want to use those names.

Also, my husband's last name is Irish, so no Irish surname names..or really, since his last name is common, any surname names because it sounds like a law firm. I have some surname names that I love, but they won't work, because they sound just awful with his last name.

And finally, nothing overtly religious. Oh, and my husband does not like names that mean something other than just being a name..so no Hunter, Chase, Archer, or whatever else.

In the end..that leaves us with ....nothing!

I have a few ideas, but nothing seems to "feel" right. I like Benjamin, but of course the middle name is Matthew so that would make the initials BM. I used to really like Liam, but feels like it has gotten too popular. I thought of putting Nicholas on the list, I do have a cousin with a child named Nicholas, but she is actually my 2nd cousin, not one of the ones I was super close to growing up. I still feel like it seems a little odd to use because my grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins are so close, even though I don't see all of them all the time, they see each other all the time and are on my FB page.

Has anyone gotten this far and not had a short list of names at least? I know I did not pick my youngest name until she was almost born and same with the older one just before her, but in both cases, I had a short list well before this and both got names from that list.

I am mostly a lurker, but it might make you feel better to know that DH refuses to discuss names at all until baby is born. So while I have a short list (okay, a not so short list), I have no idea if any of them are actual possibilities. We named our oldest in 2 days. DD's name took much longer (5 days). In fact, we went through every possibility I could think of/had considered. In the end, my mom finally declared "I am going to call her A....until you give her a name."

And DH declared, "I like that name!" I threw my hands up in disgust because that was the only name we've ever "discussed" while I've been pregnant. He saw me looking at the history of DD's name online and told me he did not like it. So I crossed it off my list of possibilities and didn't suggest it again after baby was born.

Our younger son's name took about 2 days.

So yes, there is hope. Even if you don't have a short list when going into labor, baby will still eventually have a name. (My midwife had a patient wait until baby was almost 1 year old before deciding on a name.)

Some suggestions: Nathan, Tobiah, Simon, Gideon, Leo, Seamus, Matthias, George, Gabriel,

Can you give us some more you have considered this time (perhaps even interspersing you current LOs names) to give us a better idea of your naming style?

Not unusual, but not too popular.

Not a surname.

Not overtly religious.

No names with alternative meanings.

No questionable initials.

All the names are 2 syllable, popular names. Like Ryan and Gavin.

I just found a name on these lists that looks good... Cian? Is that pronounced key-ann or Kye-ann? Because I do not want to rhyme with Ryan.

I say you go with William Matthew. You can call him Liam since you really like that name. If he finds it too common a name when he is older he can go by William.

I don't see a problem with the initials BM since there would also be a last name. If you really like the name Benjamin, then you should really keep that as an option.

DH is ridiculously difficult with names. As in, he likes nothing, or he likes it for a week and changes his mind.

This baby will be Caden. I thought it sounded too trendy but spelled this way it is actually of Irish and Welsh origin and I have some distant ancestors with the name.

Okay, that helps.

Cian is a great name!. It's pronounced KEE-an, so it definitely doesn't rhyme with Ryan. The best website I've found to answer questions about names is www.behindthename.com. It's based on the actual history of names.

I also like to look through the lists from the SSA.

Other suggestions: Corbin, Noah, Isaac, Owen, Levi, Gavin, Arthur, Leland, Aaron, Lamar, Tyler, Brendan, Dillon/Dylan, David, Eric, Jesse

I've been hoping these boy baby name threads that keep popping up would help me but so far nothing!! My csection is in a week and we have 2 possible names if it is a girl but nothing I love if it is a boy. The only name I love has been vetoed. And if it's a boy it'll only be our third, I couldn't imagine having to pick 6 boy names. There just aren't enough I like let alone love. Needless to say, I'm no help!

I've heard it as Key-ann.  I think Cian Matthew is nice, but I'd like Kieran Matthew even better.  Do you like that?

One of my major requirements was that everyone knew how to spell their names without asking me how to spell it.  Yes, I am lazy that way

In 6.5 years I have never once had to spell any of their names.  I am mighty proud of myself :)

ETA:  oh and our youngest was renamed 3 times bc we just couldn't decide.  But ALL of the names were simple to spell.

I had so many names for a girl!!!! I loved so many...

I think Callie was my favorite. My husband loved Maisie, which I love too. For the middle name either Paige or Emma.

Trouble is all the people who are changing th way names are spelled, especially C names. One of my children has the name Carter and I was recently asked if that was spelled with a K or a C.

We had not even a short list for DS2. It took us five days to name him Benjamin and another for his middle.

We didn't really have much of a short list for DS4. I think we were kind of expecting that after three boys, the odds were that he'd be a girl. Not that we had any girl names at all. We had a couple of boy names we liked but weren't certain on any of them. It took us two days to decide on Daniel and a third to decide on a middle.

If I were ever to have another boy, I'd have Michael, Nicholas, maybe Alexander, Jacob, Joshua, Thomas, and Josiah on my list. (I have a thing for Hebrew names, I think; three of the boys are, and the other two kids are Latin and Greek in origin. I was a classical homeschooler before I knew it.)

You'll find the right name!

How many syllables in your last name? A longer last name usually means a shorter first name.

We have four boys. During number two we just could not agree on anything. Nothing. I think we decided his name the week before and we both severely compromised. Number three we each picked a name and decided after we saw him which he looked more like.

I love Elias.

We've had ideas for a girl since about 20 weeks. We like Penelope and Ophelia. We haven't discussed middle names for them but we usually wait until we're in the hospital for that.

The only boy name I like is Sebastian but it's a no go.

With that spelling I would have pronounced the C with an S sound so something  like sigh an.

If you like the k sound what about Keenan.

We are in the same boat. I have almost given up hope that hubby and I will find anything we can agree on. We had the same problem with our dd five years ago, but at least then we had a few ideas!

I like Sebastian as well, but it has also become very popular in some areas...and hubby isn't too fond of it anyway. Maximillian and Atticus are the only others at the moment that one or the other hasn't vetoed:(

I consistently had to spell Emma and Lily. These aren't exotic names folks! Don't even get me started on how people spell Amelia and Adeline!(Emilya and Addalin)
