Deutsche heute-anyone have it, or know where I can get it online?

Recommended Posts

My college kid is learning German over Christmas break. Needs it to test into the next level German class next semester. He ordered Deutsche Heute used, and it won't come till Jan 7, which is too late. Does anyone know where I can rent etextbooks? Does anyone happen to have this text that they want to sell?

Thanks for all help!

Try the library. Ours doesn't have textbooks, but they have some great workbooks and grammar guides that I use with my students. I think they would be perfect for a quick study. Just get the scope and sequence or the table of contents from the textbook to know what he needs to cover.

Another idea is if you happen to live near a college, maybe try their bookstore.  There aren't tons of options for German so chances are they have that book or something else that could work.

Ok, but I have to ask.  Has he taken any German in the past?  I'm imagining someone attempting to learn a lot of German in a couple of weeks without any prior experience.  That would be quite a feat!

Oh, yes, this would be very, very difficult. I was thinking he was reviewing. I'm not sure any of the resources that I have could manage that. And the three textbooks that I've used through the years weren't complete enough to learn at that level. They all assumed that there was instruction along with, though I haven't seen Deutsche Heute. Wishing him luck! College classes are so expensive, it might be worth finding a tutor for the break.

I think Deutsche Heute could be used without instruction.  Might not be enjoyable, but not impossible.

I have a hard time imagining learning a language without another speaker at the very least, but Deutsche Heute is on Amazon, like many other textbooks for German (this is an e-rental):

http://www.amazon.com/Deutsch-heute-Introductory-Jack-Moeller/dp/0547180586

Another edition:

Like the others, I'm assuming he is reviewing, say, what he learned in high school German. Otherwise he absolutely must have a tutor. Has he learned any language before?

Good to know. I'm going to buy a used copy. The tutor has them using Portfolio, but I'd really like them to have a reference textbook that covers everything (like most physics or math texts) rather than just their notes.
