What are my options for outsourching writing for my 8th grader?

We're using writeguide.com.  I didn't comparison shop so I don't know how it prices out vs. other options, because our charter pays for it.  But it's ~$75/month for interaction every weekday, which is exactly what my 6th grader needed.  We're having a great experience with it, and plan to continue when our current "course" runs out.

WriteAtHome and Time4Writing both are priced around $400/yr, which is expensive in my book.  I chose to use WriteAtHome on a per paper basis to make it more affordable.  You might find something local for a better price?  We have a local teacher who teaches in-person homeschool classes for $35/mo (<=$315/yr), which is more affordable than anything I've found online.  I don't understand why online courses are priced so high!  It seems it should be cheaper than an in-person class.

Wow!  $35/mo?  How many sessions is that?  Around here we can expect to pay at least $30-35/session.  To get classes the whole school year we'd be looking at well over $1000.  Maybe that's why the online classes are so high -- because folks from around here (SF Bay Area) are willing to pay for it.

50 minutes once a week...large class.  It may have gone up to $40/mo this year...I'm quoting last years price when we were doing it.  We still pay $45/mo for science class, but that teacher has said she makes no profit, as her supplies run that. :(     They are admittedly good deals.  It just makes the online classes seem less enticing.  If in-person were $1000, online classes for $400 would be appealing!  I can't fathom paying $1000 for a class!
