Luckymama
Anyone know how long royal icing lasts before it sets up into a hard mass in the bowl? Dd is decorating cookies today (in between doing her school work before heading to Nutcrwcker warmup in five hours). She has to outline then and wants to "flood" the centers w the icing. Thanks :)
Rachel
If you cover it in an airtight bowl and keep it moist it should be ok later today. Just put a damp paper towel in the bowl to keep it moist.
Rachel
If it does harden some you can add some water back to it. Put it in the mixing bowl and add just a few drops at a time until it's at flooding consistency.
GoVanGogh
Agreeing with both of the above. It does harden quickly when exposed to the air. I have made it before in the morning and covered the bowls with several damp paper towels and had it still soft for an afternoon party. Rachel
No problem, how did they turn out?
Beaniemom
I saw this late but I preload my icing bags, twist them tightly and secure, then cover the tips w/a damp paper towel. This way it doesn't dry out snd I am ready to go.
Luckymama
No problem, how did they turn out? Very well for her first time! I showed her how to pipe using a tip, and the only assistance she needed was switching out trays :) Thanks!
