madteaparty
DS has put a couple of PRAXIS ones on his list (round discs). Do these hurt more than the original foam ones? I see on amazon the foam ones get many mroe positive reviews, but I wonder if that's a function of how long they've been around. Any NERF advice is welcome! (we'd play in the woods/field if that matters. Not urban warfare ;))
Guest
My ds just got a disc launcher (Vortex, I think) for his birthday. He says it doesn't hurt more than the darts unless it hits you in the face. In his opinion, it would make a three-year-old cry, but most people don't think it hurts. (source: ten-year-old ds);)
mommymonster
My children are not huge fans of the disk launchers, for two reasons: they hurt slightly more when you get hit with them and they fly further. If you're playing in the woods/fields, the flying further part might be more of a consideration -- you're going to lose more discs, or at least spend more time looking for them, as they are going to be traveling further. Also, according to my nine-year old, disc guns are less accurate and more difficult to load. The five-year old concurs. They are younger than your DS, though. emcap
We find that discs hurt a bit more but jam so much less. We won't buy dart guns any more, so sick of those mangled darts needing to be replaced! Kids are 5,7,9,11 and all prefer the disc guns even though we have more and bigger dart guns. madteaparty
Thanks all. Based on the info here, I think I might follow his lead for once and get him exactly what he wants;)
blondeviolin
We have only disc ones. Even my toddler doesn't complain if he's shot with them. In our house, discs seem better since some of my kids are too tempted to bite the darts.
FriedClams
I prefer the disc ones when I play against the kids. I need the extra distance and speed because I'm old. :-) Now, the dart launching Zing bow and arrows, they HURT. We ***LOVE*** them but they require eye protection and a strong pain tolerance. trulycrabby
DS10 says the discs have "awesome" range, but aren't nearly as accurate as the darts and tend to curve.
