My 8 year old has to make a gift for his 7 year old friend.

The friend likes building things, inventing rubber band shooters, etc.. He enjoys bubbles and playing with buckets of water. He likes fast cars and planes.

What should he make him?

He had the idea of making him a shirt and customizing it somehow, but that is as far as he went with that idea.

I thought we could gather supplies for a couple of projects for him, but I don't know if my son will like that idea.

Thanks!

A trebuchet makes a neat building project (doubles as a kind of shooter!), but if he doesn't like the idea of just getting the supplies, he might not go for it.  Perhaps he could duplicate the building directions in an old-fashioned, pirate map, kind of way?

If he doesn't have one already...

Make a bubble wand for making giant bubbles...they're made with string and can be different sizes.

I've never used one so not sure on the learning curve for using it. Klutz had a book on it a while back.

Does it need to be made, not just purchased?

We once gave my son a huge bag of rubber bands as part of a gift. I could imagine wrapping a bag of rubber bands in ton of bubble wrap.

What about the mentos and diet coke thing? We have a purchased launcher thing but there might be instructions to diy.
