umsami
I really like the looks of this curriculum, but can't find a lot on it. There were a few mentions in some older threads, but that's it. Has anybody used it for more than one year? Would you say it's on grade level pretty much? Do you think you could use the 4th grade level (Ruby) with a 5th grader and 3rd grader? Did you think it was worth it? Is it just literature, or do you view it as more of a complete LA program? Thanks in advance. :)
zarabellesmom
I'm curious too.
SparklyUnicorn
I bought Pearl some years ago. I ended up selling it. We didn't use it. It seemed like a typical public school lit type book with short stories, poems, and lots of busy work type questions. Which is ok if that is what you are looking for or if your kid likes that. And at least in that realm it seemed a bit better. The reading selections weren't bad. It's mostly literature. There are writing assignments and questions, but I don't recall instruction in grammar or anything like that.
Farrar
I like the selections and that they're mostly full texts. I've also flirted with getting it. This year, I pulled together short stories for us and printed and bound them myself. Even if I didn't do it exactly like they wanted, I thought for next year, maybe it would be nice to have a text with preset questions and good selections so I wouldn't have to think about it. On the other hand, the price isn't that great. And is the teacher book really necessary?
Guest
We have been using Mosdos for 2 years and my kids love the books. We do not use the TM or the workbook. IMO the text has plenty of great info.
