Laura Corin
It has taken until getting into university, but Calvin finally has a good group of people and stimulating work. He's suddenly really social. L
maize
Hurray! I'm so glad things are going well for him. University was a major social turning point for me. So much easier to find people to relate to.

JennW in SoCal
It has taken until getting into university, but Calvin finally has a good group of people and stimulating work. He's suddenly really social. Yep. Same with my ds and it is so wonderful to see, although I'm only seeing it from a distance and through what he tells me! Loesje22000
Glad to hear, and glad for him! But it is hard to tell young children they have probably 'have to wait' until university to have a fitting social group.
Laura Corin
But it is hard to tell young children they have probably 'have to wait' until university to have a fitting social group. Absolutely. It's heart-breaking. I never dared to say that, because I didn't know if it would be true. I did talk to Calvin about getting into a selective university, citing my own experience: I did a joint degree - one department was selective and the other not. I sometimes wished that his gifts lay on the maths/science side. There were chess clubs and science clubs.... I couldn't find anything social locally for teenage readers/writers. With work level, I did find myself saying: okay, GCSEs are a bit mind-numbing, but the IB will be better; okay, parts of the IB are a bit mind-numbing, but university will be better.... Loesje22000
I also didn't dare to tell dd it that way, but it feels sometimes this way. Dd is very aware she can't get her current education at school, and that motivates her to pass all the requirements. But we are looking forward to 2016-2017, no exams that year! La Condessa
Sometimes when an individual is having social problems, the cure is to find a new society. I think this may be my new favorite quote.
