alisoncooks
Went to the hardware store today and picked up about 100 paint cards (long story short: I need to do a touch up and I don't know what the paint color is! Grrrr...time to do some color matching...) Anyway, I handed the cards to the girls, to entertain them as we were driving. Oldest DD proceeded to try and sound out all the names of the paint colors ("chambray, blustery sea, perfectly blue"). This is my same kiddo that refuses to read anything outside of "forced" phonics practice during school time. She did astonishingly well! BTW, this same kiddo has recently discovered that she can actually read environmental print (road signs, advertisements, etc). She feels like a REAL reader now! :D :D

Lecka
Awesome!!!!! That is really some sounding out!!!!!!!! I think at Home Depot they can match a color if you take in a paint chip, I saw someone doing it in line ahead of me -- it looked like what was happening. Maybe an option.
