moonlight
The only requirement is that it be waterproof, not just water resistant. He likes bright, funky colors and looks. I like not so expensive. Go!
MEmama
DS has a Garmin Forerunner 10. He tracks all his training and racing with it, including triathlons--definitely waterproof. :)
bettyandbob
What is not so expensive. Because if I could find an inexpensive waterproof watch I'd have it myself. I Tried a couple of under $50 watches that claimed waterproof. They were not. I even tried a watch under the Speedo brand, thinking they know about water. Nope. I've been wearing a dive watch for a few years. I think it was close to $200, but it is in water 4 days a week. If you give a price range it might be easier if such a watch exists. I talk to the trees
Any of these look appealing? Don't know how waterproof they actually are, but my Swatch from junior high still keeps perfect time!

zimom
http://smile.amazon.com/Timex-Womens-Ironman-Traditional-30-Lap/dp/B00CAG2QMM/ref=pd_sbs_watch_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=1DVAE8EPS735TFZNTWYW My daughter has this Timex Ironman watch. Swims in it daily, including a half mile Tri swim in the ocean, lakes, surfing, etc. It is still ticking and she certainly does not treat it with care. Says water resistant to 330 feet??? If that isn't waterproof I guess I just don't understand what that "definition" would be. I would definitely check out to Ironman models. Edited to add: possible DS model in teal: http://smile.amazon.com/Timex-Ironman-30-Lap-Watch/dp/B00KAFEZD8/ref=pd_sbs_watch_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=10P69WQ6ZVS9EVMF9M9T
aug17girl
I recommend the timex ironman 30 lap shock. The shock in the name means it is more resistant to breaking from dropping. The band type on these is easily replaceable if it breaks. I recently replaced mine for less than $10 at a watch repair. I was told that the narrower bands are not as easily replaced. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T5K585-Ironman-Traditional-30-Lap/dp/B006K6PHEC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1416862585&sr=8-6&keywords=ironman+shock It comes in bright colours. catz
I wear my ironman watches swimming pretty regularly. I had one leak a TINY bit and get a couple drops in side. It still worked for a good year beyond that. So I definitely think of them as water proof.
moonlight
my bad. I thought there was a big difference between the two terms, but the waterproof ones are good for going deeper in the water and the water resistant ones aren't..but for my purposes, water resistant is good enough!! thanks everyone, now I have to decide which ones we like more.. does anyone know anything about these ones: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007QODE88/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A7SM3ZHA16GAH i'm thinking he will really the funky color scheme of this one..
