UncleEJ
Just a vent. I am tapering prednisone and am shaking so bad I can't even cut my toenails. :-( I really, really hate this drug. It also has my blood pressure and heart rate through the roof, and I seem to have developed a heart murmur in the past week. I go in for an echo on Monday. Yay. Sorry to whine, I know it could be much, much worse. Just sick of health problems that just keep piling up.
Starr
I am with you on the prednisone. If I ever take it again my family will move out. :grouphug: to you!
marbel
I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. :grouphug: My son has been on prednisone a few times. Man, he feels so much better after the first day. When he was going through a couple years of chronic nausea, sinus infections, and other troubles we wished he could just stay on it forever - it helped that much. Amazing how people can react differently. Hope you are better soon. :grouphug:
umsami
I'm sorry. My Mom was on it for Giant Cell Arteritis...and my Dad is on it on and off as part of his leukemia treatment. It has some wicked side effects. Do you want to ask your doctor about making the tapering more gradual? That might help.

I have Crohn's disease and it sure does a good job of calming down the inflammation, but the side effects are rough. Especially the tapering effects. It is such a double-edged sword. Some people feel this is too fast but he tends to just want to get it over with. Last time I was on, I fussed about it and he let me go down by 5mg at a time and that was a bit better but it drags it out that much longer. I kind of just want it done, ya know. Mrs Mungo
It is such a double edged sword for my son. Yes, it helps clear up infections, but it makes him so freaking cranky, geez!
alisoncooks
I'm sorry. DH is on Prednisone as part of his cancer regimen and he hates it. The taste of it makes him puke uncontrollably. :(

The taste of it makes him puke uncontrollably. :( Oh my gosh, the pills taste terrible!! I try to hold it in my teeth before I take a drink to swallow it, but it doesn't always work. I hate when they hit my tongue. Why, oh, why can't they be coated!!
TammyinTN
I totally agree with you...I took it this summer for poison ivy infection and I cleaned for 4 days straight and slept very little. My family was so happy I was off that stuff. I seriously felt like a crazy cleaning person. Hope you will be off it soon! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:
KrissiK
I'm sorry. I love the stuff. It makes me feel good. It makes me so I can breathe. And I don't ache all the time. But I know other people hate it.

I ended up in a mental hospital after 5 days without sleep because I just quit them cold turkey at day 2. Stupid, but I didn't know any better then, and I was already nuts by day 2, I had no idea quitting early would make it worse. So sorry you have to deal with that. Is there anything your Dr. can give you to counteract the side effects a bit? I know I could've used a sleep aid for sure.
Joker
I don't have trouble falling asleep but it makes me feel horrible and have bad dreams. The last time I was on it, I woke in the middle of the night to a little ghost girl (who looked like she ran off the set of Little House on the Prairie) standing beside my bed. I kicked it in the face and it vanished. :coolgleamA: My dds, who have asthma and other respiratory problems, have to take it occasionally and it makes them itch like crazy. I find that weird since I know people are prescribed it for poison ivy. The allergist tries to work with them because he has seen how miserable they are on the stuff but sometimes they just have to take it. I hate that stuff! Pred is definitely not something to mess around with! I am actually not really having to much trouble sleeping. I am on day 32 of 40 and have only have a few sleepless nights. The biggest trouble I'm having is the effects on my heart and shakiness. I swear my heart is about to bust out of my chest, it is beating so fast and hard. UncleEJ
On 50 mg of pred I am ready to throw myself off a bridge. On 25mg - I clean all day and night :) I joke to my specialist that he really should prescribe it for me every spring. The highest I've been is 40mg. The first few days I am a machine. I baked like six different things one day, and did all the dishes! But, by about day 4, the energy wears off and I just feel bad.
ExcitedMama
I'm so sorry it's awful! I'm tapering down too post surgery to reduce inflammation and I just want to be done! I can't sleep and just feel edgy. Its so strange to me how it stays in your system for so long. The effects are worse now than at the beginning on a higher dose. I hope it gets better soon! Guest
I adore Prednisone. It makes my life so great that I really understand how people can become drug addicts. But I know I am not the usual case.
J-rap
Sorry! It has worked miracles on my kids for various reasons, but they also can't sleep while taking it.
