Interesting video interviewing Barton

Recommended Posts

Yes, yes!!  I watched the rest of the video last night, and it was fascinating to get to know her, to hear her take on when to use your disability label, issues with discrimination.  My respect for her went up BIG TIME and now her materials make so much more sense!!

And you know, people have said she's annoyingly slow on the dvds, but in the interview she's actually kind of nice.  Of course I should go watch the level 1 dvd and see.

Well, apparently she is "annoyingly slow" on the DVD because there are some parents implementing this program that not only have absolutely NO training in OG, they are also frequently dyslexic themselves and possibly have other issues as well.  The slow, careful instruction, along with the really bland visual presentation is so that hopefully even dyslexic parents with ADD can get through the material and implement it with their kids.  An article I read discussed this when I was first starting Level 1.

Really!  That's interesting!  I found her style very peaceful, and I enjoyed watching her face, the way her eyebrows go up and down, the way her eyes would track.  I'm sure the leveled dvds won't be so interesting, but at least she makes sense to me now.

Finally got to watch this video all the way through.  Thanks for the link.

I love that she keeps brushing off any emphasis on her own specific program and just really wants to talk about educating the general public about dyslexia, especially the strengths.

I find what she said about the DSM extremely interesting.  And I think ANY parent that has a child that MIGHT have dyslexia should watch this video.
