Columbus area meet-up

Recommended Posts

I find myself somewhat unexpectedly in central Ohio for a month. :)

The internet has plenty of suggestions for what to do in the area, but I would really like to meet some actual people. We don't know anybody in the area and definitely no homeschool families.

Are there any regular group meet-ups? Places to meet kids to play with? Anyone want to hang out? :)

Thanks!

Well I'll give you a little bump here.  There are so many homeschoolers in Columbus, if you just GO somewhere with your kids you're probably going to meet others.     I mean, in the town we're in, I bump into new homeschooling faces all the time.  I just met a lady at the Y and we got to gabbing and realized we both homeschooling.  It's just too pervasive here to be avoided.  Go somewhere and you'll meet some.

I guess I don't know your interests or anything to know what you're looking for.  Any particular niche like SN or growing 6 toes or organic toadstool farming or anything?

Have you been to Whole Foods for lunch?  There's a play area there and you'll meet people.  Some of the malls have nice play areas.  Polaris, Tuttle...  There are some indoor water park/hotel places...

Lol I don't think it is that easy. I have yet to bump into any homeschoolers in Columbus, even at places like COSI. But I am from a smaller town in Central Ohio and I find that when going to Columbus the over approachability is different. So maybe it is us.

I would also check the Columbus Zoo. I believe they used to have zoo days for homeschooling kids.

Columbus Zoo on a day when a homeschool class is offered.  Register your older child for the class ($9) and get $2 zoo admission for her, siblings too young for the class, and one adult.  (https://www.columbuszoo.org/home/discover/children; then select homeschool)

Columbus Metro Parks also offer homeschool events. Those that require registration fill quickly, but some are open to all comers.  (http://reservations.metroparks.net/programs/, select homeschool to see just homeschool programs)

If you are in Columbus through mid-November, get tickets for one of the educational symphony concerts. (http://www.columbussymphony.com/education/classroom-programs/)

Visit any public library or museum during school hours and you have a good chance of finding homeschoolers.  You will also find them in parks and stores and most places you go.   In which part of Columbus will you be based?    PM me if you don't want to post.

Thanks! I was already planning to hit the zoo and COSI at some point, but I didn't know about the homeschool classes. I'll try to plan around that.

We are in north Columbus, close to Westerville/Worthington. Been to the play area at the Polaris mall (just a couple of miles away), but it's only been a couple of days so not much other than that.
