We've got a new interest in dollhouse craftiness. We're remodeling one, adding wallpaper and flooring.

Are any of you into this hobby?

Do you have blogs, books, etc you recommend? Skills you're willing to share?

I have a vision of making a funky artsy house, with art gallery rooms including little sculptures like a museum. I really like the idea of making most of the stuff by hand. This appeals both because it sounds kind of fun and because it's cheap.

I just bought a kit and will be starting one soon.  We are probably moving soon, so I'm waiting until then.  Last summer we went to a steampunk museum exhibit and they had a steampunk dollhouse.  I've been wanting to make one ever since!  I've been looking on Pinterest for ideas and plan on making as much of the furniture as I can.

Here is a blog I came across:  http://moreminis.blogspot.com/

"Dollhouse Minatures" magazine, and before that "Nutshell News", used to have some great columns by someone named Joanne Swanson, who created a roombox each month with everyday around-the-house supplies.  I got a lot of inspiration from her articles, and made several things based on her instructions. There were *so* many ideas in each column; she is really creative.  She now has a blog, here.

We've collected a ton of doll house stuff over the years. I like vintage doll house furniture to mix in with newer things. The quality and details were so much nicer, I think, when it was a more popular pastime.

We've found our quirkiest stuff at yard sales and thrift stores. Little odds and ends repurposed, like ornate coasters turned into coffee tables. They made tons of beautiful beeswax desserts for a bakery/kitchen. We use Stockmar wax.

I found awesome mini Persian rugs at an Islamic bookstore. I've since seen them in other places like Etsy.

Once I found high quality rug samples at Crate and Barrel. They fit nicely into many dollhouse rooms.

Here's a free dollhouse wallpaper site: http://www.jennifersprintables.com/printables1.html. My girls loved this website.

Because fairy gardens are popular right now there seems to be a lot of whimsical tiny furniture around. Stuff like this: http://www.miniature-gardens.com/miniatures/miniature-furniture.html

Felt covered matchboxes are super easy to make and make the best teeny tiny baby beds. So can walnut shells. :)

Dover sells fine art stickers that are fun to "frame". http://search.doverpublications.com/search?keywords=fine%20art%20stickers

If you haven't already, check out Waldorf handy crafts. They can add a neat natural look.

My MIL likes to make beaded chandeliers. They're fairly simple and super cool!

Have fun!
