Haunted houses

Do you like them? There is one in Atlanta that charges about $30 for tickets to two attractions/scenes or whatever they want to call them. And for $50 you get front of the line access to both. I was surprised at the prices but it's supposed to be a fabulous haunted house. It's called Netherworld.

Honestly, I wouldn't go in one if someone paid me to do it. I hate them, but then again I'm a scaredy cat.

Yes, it has become a family tradition for us to go.

Last year I had just had my accident and my sister had come to be with me and my family. I hobbled through a couple using a walker!

Well that's dedication. The one time my first husband dragged me to one, I spent the entire time with my eyes closed and holding onto his arm to keep me from falling over. :)

They aren't for me. I went to one as a Girl Scout--one "boo" and it scared the h3ll out of me. We had made it thru one room. We had to leave immediately and I was trembling and could hardly walk. I think my mom was disappointed as she wanted to see the rest of it.

I participated in one in high school, but I was a "mourner" and not in a scary part.

They're not my cup of tea. I get scared enough when I'm listening to music through earbuds and someone comes up behind me.  Nearly peed my pants when I opened the back door one night and a possum was standing there. Yup, all he was doing was standing there, looking at me.

No need for me to pretend that I would find haunted houses to be fun. I'm a chicken.

I can't handle haunted houses.  They freak me out even though Iknow it's all for fun.  At disney I won't go in the haunted mansion after dark, during the day I am fine but at night, um no.

I sent my boys to a haunted corn maze with dh one year.  It ended with the boys running over  dh to get out and all running to the truck when they finally made it out.  They had fun though and they still talk about it.   I'll take the non haunted corn maze during the day.

I don't like them. They don't scare me. I just find them ridiculous. Would I pay $5 to go through with friends: probably. $30? No way. We have one very near us that is now nationally rated. (Didn't know they did that!) It is a huge thing. An old farmhouse/converted to restaurant/converted to haunted house that has a haunted woods behind it. now they have added a corn maze. They also do haunted Christmas or something. Come Halloween, the wait to get in is hours and hours. There has even been a death. Guess that is good for the haunted atmosphere...(It was traffic related, but most certainly tied to the house operating.) People are coming from different states just to go to this monstrousity. I do not understand. My kids tell me it is lame. They have been once since it opened just to see what the hubbub was all about. Most of their friends go multiple times a year. At their ridiculous prices...insanity.

No way would I pay that much for a haunted house.   But then again I wouldn't pay to go period.  I don't like them.  Add me to the chicken list.

I went to a couple when I was a teen but only went along pretty much because of peer pressure  (pretty sure guy friend nearly carried me though the last one).  Dh use to love them but by the time we had gotten together I was well past wanting to "fit in" and subjecting myself to nightmares for a month.  I told him that was a trip for him and his buddies.

We have a local attraction that has long lines every night.  I don't know what he charges but I do know the workers are volunteers and the guy that runs it donates the money to the local charities/food banks.

My kids are going to one tonight for the first time. I'm too chicken to take them so my brother is. They are very excited and I'm pretty sure they'll be fine with it. My 13 year old in particular will probably scream herself hoarse and beg to go back next year. :-)

I don't like them but dd15 Loves them.  In fact, her birthday was last weekend and I bought similar VIP passes for a bunch of her friends to go and then come for a sleep over afterwards.

They loved it!

PS just in case anyone is interested..... I have some FearPDX VIP tickets left for Vancouver Washington that I am selling on Craigslist for $20 each if anyone is interested. ($35 at the door). Contact me if you are interested. They are good any night through Nov 1.

I made the mistake of riding the Haunted Mansion in Extra Magic Hours once...never again! It may be campy and silly, but at night, those trees lining the walkway are downright scary!!

I wouldn't pay to do a haunted house. We have a corn maze that they haunt at night, and I won't do it after dark. Period.

The Polynesian Cultural Center has a "lagoon" that goes through it. They do canoe tours and have a canoe parade. At Halloween for several years, they did a haunted lagoon. Creatures would come up out of the water, run across the water then drop down under the canoe, etc. It was a lot of fun. I am sad that they aren't doing it anymore.

I don't like them.  I went to my first one when I was a young Girl Scout.  They made me go in the back of the group and the monsters would get right up behind me breathing heavily or chase us with chains in a strobe light area.  I was terrified.  I went to a few when I was older and I wasn't so scared, but I found some of the gruesome scenes upsetting.  We avoid them now.  I don't think any of my kids, including the adults, have been to one.

I will not pay someone to scare me.  I have not been to a haunted house since I was 17.  Someone would, in fact, have to pay me quite a lot of money to go to one.  At least $100, maybe more.

heehee, never thought about it like that.

"Here, stress me out as much as you can, then take my money!"

Just for the record, the ones I have been to have been put on by youth groups, scouting groups, military units and/or organizations (like the PCC) that are affiliated with a religious organization. I've never been to one that had anything that I would describe as gruesome.

I never understood why a human being intentionally makes himself/herself fearful. Hasn't it been the history of humankind to strive to avoid such instances? Truly do.not.get.it.

Haunted houses, like scary games, books, and movies, appeal to people's sense of excitement in a safe environment. It's not about glorifying or reliving actual historical horrors. If anything, it's about the sense of taming them.

The only haunted house I've ever been to was Disneyworld, but my boys would certainly love a good one. Actually, they want to go to Japan to see Universal Studios Japan's "Biohazard - The Real". It's a haunted house where you get to fight back.

OooOOooo!  Fake haunted houses.  I live near Gettysburg.  They have a gazillion ghost tours where the houses are supposedly really haunted by dead Civil War soldiers.  Since I've been living here they went from having one ghost tour to having 5,826 of the darn things.  It's ridiculous.  Why did all these ghosts decide to show up only in the last decade?  Seems a little fishy to me.  Like, maybe since there's absolutely nothing to do in Gettysburg after 7:00 the locals had to make money somehow so they all decided their creaky civil war houses were all haunted.

I haven't been to a fake haunted house since I was about 12 and I remember thinking it was silly, but it certainly wasn't a nationally recognized one.  (And I have never been on the silly Gettysburg ghost tours, either.)

Some really think it's entertainment. Similarly, I don't get the attraction of rides that make people feel sick. I took my Girl Scout troop to an amusement park and one girl threw up from being on a ride. She wanted to go on it again but I said no. She cried and said I was stealing her fun. I was baffled. My dd16 loves roller coaster rides even though they make her stomach leap up and down in her body. I don't get that either.

Just to update, the haunted house was a disaster. They were in there for like two minutes and my brother had to drag them out because my 12 year old was near hyperventilating. My 13 year old was doing great and was disappointed she didn't get to see more. I'll have to make sure she gets another opportunity to go without her sister. :)
