Renee Zellweger doesn't look like herself.

I'm not criticizing or mocking or poking fun.

I never would have guessed the latest pictures ARE HER. I always like how she looked because she had a fuller face and a smile that seemed to be with her entire face, KWIM?

Now she kind of looks like a combo of Sarah Jessica Parker and Heidi Klum.

This just popped up on my FB. I always feel sad when a perfectly gorgeous woman chooses to surgically alter her face. I know I don't know what she is thinking but I thought she was so pretty before. She looks completely different. It would be weird to look in the mirror and see a different person looking back at you.

Wow...can you imagine living a life where your appearance is scrutinized like this? I mean, I totally get that with becoming a "movie star" one is also going to get the public attention. But, just wow. No way am I secure enough to handle this sort of thing. I hope Renee is!

I've never really liked her acting or movies, but she was beautiful before and had a very distinctive look.  Now she just has this kind of generic could be anyone look about her.   Can't imagine why she thought that was a good idea.  I find it pretty sad actually.

I think women in the public eye can't win. If they show their age they don't get hired as easily and they get called old and ugly. If they try to hide their age then they get criticized, called insecure and made fun of.

And Renee Zellgeger's mom is at least partially Sami. Her eyes are (or were ) "squinty" because that is her ethnic heritage.

My guess is that as she has aged her upper eye lids started to droop and given her heritage she knew it was only going to get worse. My SIL is Chinese and has said that when she gets into her late 40s she might have to get her eyes 'done' so she can see. She has an aunt who did and they have the same eyes.

Or maybe she just wanted to keep working.

Sadly, she seems to have changed.    Maybe it was plastic surgery, maybe something else; but whatever it was she chose to do it to her own body and it's her choice.  However, I hope that choice wasn't driven by a desire to work in Hollywood.  If it was, then I hope that we as consumers, will vote with our opinions and money to support talented actors no matter their age.    Valuing talent along with realism is one of the reasons that I prefer European television.

Yeah, because no European actors have ever had plastic surgery or dyed their hair or tried to look younger.

I was wondering the same thing.  She looks so completely different.   At least whoever did the work did a decent job... she doesn't look like a plastic surgery train-wreck...but it's still kind of sad she thought she needed to change her looks so drastically.

Hmm, I don't think I said this.  I believe what I said is that I prefer European television because they value talent along with realism.  If you have opposing info, then please let me know.  I'd be interested in it.

I don't understand the comments about her possibly not getting acting calls because of her new look.  I doubt her acting ability has been changed in any way.

Her unique look AND her acting ability are what draws people to seek out her movies. Now that she looks like every other actress (IMHO,of course), she's going to have to depend on her acting alone.

If Leonardo Dicaprio's looks changed as much, it would probably affect his career just as much as it's going to affect hers.

Removing a bit of the fat from hooded eyes can look unnatturally tight for a little while, but my guess is in six months to a year the tightness will relax and she'll look more like herself again.

Remember the last time Cameron Diaz had a huge round of plastic surgery?  It was a good three months before she was recognizable again too. It was after that last action movie she did with Tom Cruise.

I saw this on a tabloid site earlier today.  Definitely looks like an eyelid lift (more than a brow lift), but it may have been medically necessary.

I have similar eyes…with some ptosis….and it's getting worse as I age.  DH said that somewhere down the line, I may want surgery.

Still, I think she was beautiful and had a unique face before.  I really hope that it was medically necessary. I also hope she had a good outcome.  I've heard of some lid lift horror stories.   It's really an art.   I hope it doesn't kill her career.  She's still beautiful…but she is not recognizable as herself right now.  Of course, over time, that will change.  People will get used to it.

I know nothing of plastic surgery, but I agree with Redsquirrel that she had her eyes done.

It looks like she had something done to her chin and jawline as well. They look like they are shaped differently.

She looks like Glenn Close to me.

I have been trying to think of who she reminded me of now all day and I could not come up with the name. Glenn Close is it!!!

I don't think she looks bad at all. There are truly some botched plastic surgery jobs out there (Meg Ryan, Kenny Rogers, etc.), but she just doesn't look like Renee anymore. It makes me kind of sad.

It makes me think of Jennifer Gray. Remember how she had that plastic surgery on her nose after Dirty Dancing and then became unrecognizable and it stopped her being hired?

Agreed that she looked good before. Looks good now. It's just odd. I find plastic surgery in general odd. I don't object exactly. It's your body, do what you like. I just can't relate to it at all. I do think being recognizable is part of stardom, so I think it's fair to wonder if it would hurt her in the business, but I hope it doesn't. As others are saying, women really can't win in Hollywood as they age.

She just looks older to me, but I may be naive. My jaw widened and nose got bigger as I aged. I have DEFINITELY not had plastic surgery (no $ for that, hah!) but there was a definitive change around 35. Plus, thicker eyebrows change my whole face.

I'm so glad I'm not a celebrity!

My first reaction is that she does look very different.  However, comparing photos of someone when they are very young to current does show changes.   She probably did have her eyelids done and they were probably dropping a bit.  That would change her look a bit, plus she appears to have lost quite a bit of weight which would slim her face quite a bit.

Have you seen an Italian movie or TV show?

I understand that celebrities do lots of cosmetic maintenance and she has probably had something done. However, I wonder if her eyelid work was a bona fide vision improvement procedure? My grandmother had to have surgery for that, though she was quite a bit older than 45 when it became necessary.

She has really done much weight hopping for her roles. Chubbed up for Bridget Jones, down to a twig for Chicago, back up 30 pounds for BJ 2... I would think that has a tremendous effect on how one looks and feels. Perhaps she's saying she feels healthier now because she's living a more steady lifestyle and isn't forced to change her body according to character roles.

I believe she is a talented gem and would love to see another film with her as a leading lady. She would make an adorable, spunky home school mom if someone would just write a great script for that!

I wouldn't have recognised her either. Her smile seems different liker her jaw is narrower and the little pursed lip thing she did is gone, her eye area is very different too. I don't buy the ageing thing because there are tons of shots of her online from last year she still looks like herself, yes very slim but still distinctly her normal  facial proportions. I think it's just a shock to see someone look so different that you see people thinking that the photo has been attributed to the wrong person.

Yes, I saw side by side photos from just recently with the new look, and from last year. I don't think she would have naturally changed that much in one year.

I think she clearly had an upper eyelid lift (I don't know what the proper plastic surgery term for that may be) which is making her eyes look larger and more oval, and her jaw is also less square which is making her face look longer and narrower.  I don't know if the narrower jaw can be solely a result of weight loss, but I tend to think it's not solely weight loss because she had the square jaw shape when she did Chicago and she was quite thin then.

I feel for her that she is getting so much media scrutiny.  Hollywood is a brutal place for a woman, especially as she grows older.  And I also despise the pressure that actors and actresses are under to get plastic surgery - you see it starting among the 20 year old starlets.  But at the same time I think that playing coy about plastic surgery is silly.  When you suddenly no longer look like you did a year ago and there's no obvious reason for the change (e.g., serious illness, injury or massive weight loss), then it's apparent that you had plastic surgery.  Why not just own it?  Is it really be so awful to say, "Yes I had my eyes lifted and I'm happy with the result, I feel great!" ?  OTOH, maybe she's happy with the press attention - "there is no such thing as bad press" right?

I think the changes are unfortunate - I thought she was beautiful before and she had a distinctive look.  But she is still beautiful and I hope she's happy with her looks and is able to let the media comments roll off her back.
