ScoutTN
Anyone know this? Ds picked it up today and just read away, even with smallish print and close lines of text. Very fun!
Cricket
I could only find this level for Old Mother West Wind (also by Burgess): https://lexile.com/fab/results/?keyword=burgess+animal+book That would put it at around a 7th grade level. We've read the Burgess Animal Book but not OMWW so I'm not sure how they compare. My 8 yo dd has little trouble with the Animal Book. I'm curious too now!
rose
I would put them in the second to third grade range, truthfully. But I think they tend to get higher ratings because of the sentence structure and vocabulary, however they are delightfully concrete for the kiddos and that overcomes much of what might otherwise make them challenging if they were written on a different subject. I couldn't have stated it better. :)
Reefgazer
I agree with this. We have nearly all of the Burgess books, and DD read them in mid-elementary school. I would put them in the second to third grade range, truthfully. But I think they tend to get higher ratings because of the sentence structure and vocabulary, however they are delightfully concrete for the kiddos and that overcomes much of what might otherwise make them challenging if they were written on a different subject.
