Saddlemomma
Has anyone used these? If so, what do you think and which are the best ones? Which are your favorites? I'm looking at slowly purchasing the science and history books in the series. They also have an art history book which looks interesting. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=the+handy+answer+book+series&rh=n%3A283155%2Ck%3Athe+handy+answer+book+series
Arcadia
My library has the science, math, physics, astronomy and biology books. Both my boys didn't like them.

Did your boys tell you why they didn't like them?
Arcadia
Did your boys tell you why they didn't like them? It's the style of writing. Somehow my boys don't favor Q&A kind of books. They prefer encyclopedia style. The books are an easy read but doesn't hold their interest. My library has the history and geography ones too but I didn't borrow. SilverMoon
We've had the science one on our shelf for years. It gets dusted more than it gets used. My kids who are more likely to look up information it would cover are not satisfied by the short, simple answers. We find topical books, science encyclopedias, regular encyclopedias, or textbooks to be far more effective. My 6th grader can ask questions that make us dig in high school level+ textbooks to find the answer. I pick them up at thrift shops, Half Price Books or used on Amazon. Saddlemomma
Thanks for all your replies. We would also want detailed information and not just quick answers. Thanks for saving me some money!
EndOfOrdinary
I think they are great as just trivia style reading, as such my son thinks they are stupid. He either wants a detailed answer or only a sentence or two. Since these are short paragraphs, they do not fall into either category. If you are still interested, the few we have picked up have always been from Goodwill's book section. You may want to just peruse around if you are near one and could pick up some good stuff.
