Maybe it's just October?

I swear we end up with a really, really slow chapter on math about this time of year, where it takes weeks when previously things were going pretty fast. Last year, it was exponents. This year, it's systems of equations. Hoping the pattern holds, where after Christmas things start going quickly again!!

We are just finishing up addition and subtraction with renaming. He's getting it just fine, but it still feels like this section is taking FOREVER. I think I am the one who needs a break. I seriously don't know how people with large families can stand the drudgery that is teaching reading and arithmetic. I reserved about 15 living math books for next week to save my sanity.

Sometimes T's brain seems to shut down for a day or two. If it's really frustrating, put it away and come back tomorrow. That's the advantage of being a couple (or in your case even more) years ahead: if you hit a rough patch you can slow down, back up or tread water for a bit guilt free.

My kids are spending a lot more time outdoors this month. Even my bookworm reads outdoors. The weather has just turn cooler so we can finally come out to play and squirrels are easier to spot.

Besides my kids like stomping on fall leaves at the park. They make their own heap and stomp. Now we even do math at the park tables :)
