We've been using CKE Biology. I like that it is inexpensive and has the coloring pages and book lists, but the chapters are so skimpy. Basically, it is a helpful tool to guide our selection of topics. We get most of our real info from the living books we read to correspond with the chapters. The hands-on activities are often writing projects, not experiements. It's really just on okay program, IMO. I am not sure we'll move on to the next book next year.

I really like real science odyssey. It's an open and go program. So far, I've been getting my materials from walmart.

My kids are about the same age as yours. I have BFSU, RSO, and CKE. My spine is building foundations of scientific understanding. That being said, I actually use RSO more because BFSU is harder to implement. CKE, like the pp wrote, is a little light on content.

After writing all that I should mention that I haven't used the earth science one. I'm using RSO's life science and chemistry and CKE's chemistry.

Also, RSO tends to have sales during holidays. There's an email list for notifications.

We've used Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space.  The reading was easy to understand for DD when she did it with our co-op last year (I read to her as she was in second grade) and she enjoyed all of the activities they did along with each lesson.  DS11 also did this the year before when he was in fourth grade.  He read on his own and completed projects at co-op so I was very uninvolved with his working through it.  He enjoyed it as well.

We have not used REAL Science Odyssey so I can't say anything about that one. :)

We're using REAL Science Odyssey Chemistry.  We LOVE it!  The experiments are really fun and age appropriate.  We just did one the other day where we weighed a cup of various related things.  The cup of ice and cup of water weighing the same really amazed the boys.  Making the first 10 elements (we used playdough instead of marshmallows) was really fun, too.  So far the only thing I don't like is the crossword puzzles at the end of each chapter so we don't bother with those.

I used RSO Earth and Space last year for my then 4th grader. It was a bit light for her, but I think it would be perfect for 2nd grade. We also used RSO Chemistry when my dds were in 2nd and 4th, and it was their favorite year of science so far. I think Pandia Press has done a great job making their science really engaging. There was a little prep work staying on top of required items for the experiments, but otherwise it was very open and go.
