Alcumus technical Question

This seemed like the best place to get answers to this... :)

My dd's been doing a lot of Alcumus again.  I was planning on having her finish up all the topics through where their Algebra 1 class ends, then signing her up for their Algebra 2 class online.  She's finished almost the whole book with me, but didn't do the Alcumus after the first few chapters or so, and although she did well going through it, it doesn't seem all to have stuck super well without a refresher, so I figured a second, faster run-through could be a good thing.

But.. she decided she'd rather skip around than follow the book.  So now she's working on stuff way into the second half.  I've explained to her again why I wanted to have her do it the other way (so she can do the later Alcumus problems as they get assigned with the class), and she's agreed to put it back.... but now I can't find out where to tell it to Follow the Book again, so she can just do the topics in order.  Did they take that option away???  If not, where did it go???

I can't find it under settings, or in the place where you can choose the focus, or in her profile, or in the help section.  I know that option used to be there!  Where is it???

Help. :)

Maybe if she goes to the earliest topic in order that she hasn't turned green (under algebra, of course), it'll go from there automatically?  That would be my guess.

FWIW, I don't think there's anything wrong with skipping around and working in the second half of the book as far as taking the course is concerned - that'll just take a load of work off her plate while she's doing the course (she could go back and turn them from green to blue, for more points :)).  The only issue I see with that is what tends to happen with one of my kids - he'll do the later topics because he's avoiding the earlier ones.

Yep, that's how I did it. :)

Thanks, guys.  That makes sense.  They must have just taken away the option that said Follow the Book (I swear it was there!!).  Maybe they just always default to the next topic now so it's not necessary?  I remember before I set it to that option the first time, the order of topics and levels were all mixed up, and didn't seem to follow any obvious progression...

I know you guys are right that there used to be a simple 'follow the book' option because I used to use it with my tutoring students.

I just PM'd my dd at work at AoPS. She says:

"I dunno if there used to be a 'follow the book' button that's now gone...but you can still have focus topics. Click on 'get a problem', then click on the pencil in the top bar of the "focus topic" box on the right side of the page. You can choose a topic there; they're split up by subject. It's still in the same order of the book; you might just have to compare chapter titles now to make sure you're at the right point."

Yes, they changed some of the format of Alcumus (I think a year ago). The follow the book option went away as did some other things. I like the old format better, but there are some great perks to this way as well - much easier to pick and choose specific topics that need to be worked on.
