blessedmom3 Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 I can't figure out how to explain this without using algebra. This is from cle 6 ( who said CLE isn't challenging???) which we are using as a supplement to Singapore. -------------- Paul's dad is five times as old as Paul. In 3 years, Paul will be 1/4 his dad's age. What are their ages now? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nansk Posted October 1, 2014 Share Posted October 1, 2014 Before: Paul -> U Dad -> 5U After: Paul -> U+3 Dad -> 4 (U+3) = 4U +12 Dad's age -> 5U+3 = 4U+12 So U+3 = 12 U=9 So now Paul is 9 and his dad is 45. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
