AmyontheFarm
My son(13) has his physio intake appointment today. The appointment was awesome, they listened, they check things out, we have a great plan in place. As the therapist is doing her things she says to my son, how do you like being a lefty? My son laughs and says, actually I can use both hands to write but I usually use my right. When he went to this Rehab center as a toddler they couldn't determine which hand to use, so since Dad and I were right handed, and we went with right handed. He didn't fuss about it, so we assumed it was good. Here's the thing. His handwriting with his left is almost neater than his right hand and we haven't be practicing with his left. Therapist wants me to spend 1 month practicing left handed cursive penmanship to see how far he can get, she says she is confident that he will pick it up really quick and quickly prefer it. I don't care which hand he uses. I'm drawn to Hand Writing Without Tears. What do you ladies recommend? Should I jump right to cursive with him, or should I start at the beginning (printing) and see how far we can get? Should I do the HWWT "Screener" with him? Will it help to determine which book I should start with? Do you have a suggestion on where I should start with him?
abacus2
I would go straight to cursive since he is older and already writes. I believe HWT's Can Do Cursive is a complete overview geared toward older students.
