Mandylubug
A year ago DH went to his GP for pain while urinating. Dr did an exam, said it was prostatitis and gave him antibiotics and told him to limit caffeine.. Well here he is a year later and is having the same issues again. When he cuts out caffeine he does have relief but he says he feels like his urinary pressure feels off. No fever. He is only 33, active and healthy. Would you think he should go back to GP or bypass and see the specialist? Our insurance doesn't require referrals if that helps.
Tap
If he is going to the doc for just this reason, may as well see a specialist if they can get him in to the office in a reasonable amount of time.

That is my thinking as well. Also, our GP is good but will try two or three things before referring out to a specialist. I'm tempted to just save the extra copays and send DH on to a specialist. Tap
Just a side note....sometimes the insurance doesn't require a referral, but the doctor may require one.

I will call Monday and speak with them. We don't want to step on GPs toes. He's really a great dr. Very laid back.
kroe1
If he had prostatic is at a young age and got antibiotics, then you should have had antibiotics also. If you did not, then That might be the problem. Sounds like DH needs to get started with a doc right away so go with who he can get in to see fastest. kiwik
Depends where you are. Here you would need a referral from the GP to see the specialist.

Never considered I should have antibiotics as well.
Wildiris
Caffeine is not the only thing that can cause prostate issues. Sitting for long periods of time--office work or driving can cause irritation. Not irrigating the plumbing frequently can cause problems too. FYI--specialists sometimes require a GP referral. He was told to avoid alcohol, caffeine and tomatoes currently. He sees marked relief with reduction of caffeine. It worries me that he has such issues at such a young age.
