rosedarul
Hello everyone. I'm Rose. I have an 8th grader and I would like to know if essays should be hand written or typed? My child feels more comfortable with typing essays; although she also does some essays by hand. Last year she learned how to do MLA format. Back decades ago, when I was in school, I was never taught MLA format. I'm just now learning what this is, in this day and age. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanking everyone in advance, Rose
klmama
I'd let her type most of them, particularly since she's learned MLA format. However, she should also write shorter essays by hand sometimes to be prepared to do that on SAT or ACT writing tests, as well as on high school essay exam questions. EndOfOrdinary
My son types them if others have to read them because his writing just is not there yet. However, as practice, he does have to write many long hand so that he can show improvement.
LindaOz
My 8th grader handwrites the rough draft and any other drafts ncessary, then she types the final copy.
Jean in Newcastle
I let my kids do what they preferred. Both preferred typing. And I actually preferred it as well because it made grading easier for me.
