Vida Winter
Has anyone ever had a bad reaction to flu mist? A friend's dd has severe symptoms a day after taking the mist. I thought I'd ask around.
foxbridgeacademy
Both my kids had "flu-like" symtoms after getting the mist. Not quite as bad as the flu but not great. Symtoms included: Fever, congestion, nausea, chills lasted about 3 days. We will not be getting it again, might as well had the flu and saved ourselves the $50 co-pay. displace
Any side effects that are similar to cold symptoms are a result of your body's response to forming infections/forming antibodies against the flu. In general the flu mist is more successful at inducing/producing immunity than a shot in past years. You're getting a weakened form of flu virus with Flu mist, and it is better to have a response, develop immunity ahead of time, and prevent the real flu (which can easily lead to hospitalization - about 200,000 per year in the US; or worse - deaths estimate about 25,000 or so yearly in US). Flu mist isn't for everyone though, especially complex medical illnesses so do research ahead of time.
