16th birthday party ideas for dd15.

DDis turning 16 next month. We had originally planned a weekend at a beach house for a group of girl friends, but honestly, her current friends parents keep making plans and canceling them, so I really hate to invest in a expensive trip, only to have people cancel at the last minute.

I need some new ideas.

Last year was 10 friends, 2 hotel suites, swimming, pizza, and '5 minutes to win it' style games.  Due to dd7s issues, dd15 cant really have friends over very often, so we let her birthday be a bit on the bigger side to make up for it.

A few requests:.

Preferably $500 or less

My car can carry 5 including me, otherwise I need to rent a car.

It absolutely has to be away from my house (due to dd7s issues) so if it involves an overnight, a house or hotel is required.

We live just outside of Portland Oregon, so it may be rainy or a gorgeous fall day...there is no way to know what the weather will be.

Dd is a cheerleader and several of her friends are too or are athletes (if that gives you a personality trait to guide ideas)

She and her friends attend public school.

Any ideas?

Hm, Seahawks game and a night in Seattle or just a dinner at the space needle? Seahawks are probably crazy expensive after last years win. The beach house sounds nice, I love Astoria, but probably hard to plan of people are flaking out. Camping? Are there any amusement parks up there? What has your dd expressed an interest in?

DD14 has been to several sweet 16's this year. Her favorites have been:

1. Rent out room at restaurant for masquerade ball.

2. Rent out country club ballroom for a dance with DJ.

3. Rent out a downtown warehouse and turn it into a modern "diva" theme and dance. This one looked like a wedding reception.

4. Renting out a trampoline place.

I dread her turning 16 because these parties seem to be way over the top around here.

I just wanted to wish you luck. We had a very simple sleepover last year for dds 16. It was special for her because it was the first time in many years we had friends over at the house because of sibling issues.

For under $500 is there a concert tour coming to your area that would be fun to take a friend or 2. Trampoline places and laser tag places stay open most of the night on Saturdays near me. If you had something like that, you could take 3 girls and then out an early breakfast at an all night diner. (of course this will entail you reserving Sunday for yourself to recover)

I don't know 7 year olds "issues", but would it be possible for younger sister to go stay out at a hotel or grandma's or someplace.  Then, you 15 year old could possibly have a fun party at home?

Just a thought.  Honestly, I don't do sweet 16 parties here, we just treat them like any other birthday.  So, I don't know if a sleepover at home would even make the cut.

But, no matter what, I hope you have fun!

Sorry, I didn't respond.  I lost this thread and thought I never started it.  I finally thought to search for '16th' today and found it!  LOL

Not really any indoor amusement parks around here.

Once I mentioned the Beach house, she really wants to do that, but I am trying to figure out the logistics of it.

Unfortunately, none within driving distance here. :0(

Yeah, I need to keep the budget within reason.  I would totally be the parent to do the over-the-top party if I could afford it though.  I love giving teens a place to have a fun, safe party night...but alas, no big party budget to go along.

There are a couple of big trampoline places here though, so if we need an in town activity, that might be fun :0)

I wish it could be outdoor, but we live in the PNW.  It will likely be cold and rainy by then.

Casino is the theme for Homecoming just a few weeks before, so I don't think she would go for that.

Also adding: spa day

Shopping spree

Horse carriage ride

Dance lessons (salsa, etc)

City scavenger hunt

Henna tattoo party

I kind of want to have some of these parties! :)

We think a lot alike.  :0)

I remembered that she had blast at a line dance a while back and mentioned that to her.  She said it sounded like fun, but not what she wanted for her party.  I think it would be a good idea because they are all cheerleaders so it would be a good personality fit for her and her friends.  I may still work on this angle a bit. I would have to see if there is a place near by that would be age appropriate though.

I was thinking about henna today on the way home, but figured it won't work since they are all cheerleaders and they can't have marking on their skin during game season.  Maybe their feet...but dd hates her feet so I don't think she will go for that.

The scavenger hunt was a thought I had too.  I was thinking about using a mall so they could stay indoors and would eliminate the driving issue.  I know she has done similar ones for church, so I may talk to her about that one too.  They seem to like doing picture scavenger hunts, so that may be an idea.

Laser tag may be an idea. I will toss it on the list.

A girl I know had a "dress up in a formal dress and go bowling" party for her 16th bday.  They didn't pay a ton for the dresses.  Found them at consignment/thrift stores.  I saw pictures, and it was darling.  I think they ate somewhere afterwards.  That is an "out of the box" idea.

It will be a couple of weeks after homecoming.  So, one thought I had was to have them use their dresses in some way.  I was thinking of  nice dinner or .....hmmm, hadn't thought about bowling in them.  LOL  Ill toss it on the list.

We did that one time, and honestly, I would rather do it at a hotel.  No worries about the mess or cleaning ahead of time.  LOL

We did a princess bride party for my dd's sweet 16 last year. I can post pictures if you are interested.

For some reason dd15 is indifferent to that movie.  I think it is a cute idea though!
