JadeOrchidSong
Background: both ds 11.9 and ds 9.8 have done 1. Song School Latin 2. Getting Started with Latin 3. Lively Latin 1 4. Lively Latin 2 till Lesson 12. At this point, they can do the lessons with my help. Ds 9 can do translation better than older brother. I would like us to move on from Lively Latin 2 to another Latin program. I already own Latin Prep 1 and 2. However, I don't feel like sitting with them for them to do it orally and writing down all the answers on a notebook would be too time consuming and they wouldn't like so much writing. They have Chinese mandarin for foreign language, too, because I am a native speaker and can teach it . I am thinking of changing to some other Latin program. Please help me decide. I would like something that they can do without me and preferably with online quizlet to help with vocab retention. Thanks!
SilverMoon
Have you looked at Latin Alive? I don't know about Quizlet, but there is headventureland.com.
JadeOrchidSong
Have you looked at Latin Alive? I don't know about Quizlet, but there is headventureland.com.Moon, how does your dc use Latin Alive? Is it pretty independent? Is there a DVD component? Is it the get-done kind of Latin? Thanks! SilverMoon
DD/9th used it completely independently as a 13yo (then 8th). She did not have as much Latin as it sounds like yours have. I have a 10.5yo/6th and 9 this month/precocious 4th that will use it this year. I expect to have to be hands on at first, but hopefully by the one month mark they're rolling most of it themselves. There is a DVD. DD used/uses it to drive the program, pausing periodically to work in the book or write in her notebook. It's got the job done painlessly for DD, and frankly it's more interesting than many courses. It includes relevant Roman history, state mottoes and such. JadeOrchidSong
Anyone else has another option? Thanks!
EndOfOrdinary
We use Jenney's Latin. I really like how it does not shy away from rigorous work, but it breaks the work down into manageable bits spread out over the week.
purduemeche
We are big fans of Memoria Press Latin's programs. So far we only have done Prima and Christiana.
PinkyandtheBrains.
We are using Minimus Latin, and enjoying it.
Reefgazer
Another vote for Memoria Press here. We've also used MP Latin programs, from Prima Latina, Latina Christiana, and now FFL. The DVD's make it independent, there are excellent teacher helps if necessary, the program is rigorous, and the work is broken into manageable chucks each day. Jennay
We have used and enjoyed Memoria Press Latin with the DVD instruction - Prima Latina through Third Form Latin. However, the MP program does require a significant amount of writing if implemented according to the instructions.
JadeOrchidSong
Can someone compare Latin Alive and First Form Latin, please?
MamaSprout
From what you've said in other posts, and where you are in Lively Latin, I think you would be pretty far along in Latin for First Form. Possibly look at the Henle books, look again at your Galore Park Books, and the samples from Latin Alive. Decide which one will "get done." I think the Latin Alive book one might be an efficient way for you to review what you've covered in Lively Latin, then you could decide what to do next. shukriyya
We are using Cambridge Latin and really enjoying it. I would imagine with your children's Latin experience they could do it fairly independently. Worth it to buy the annual subscription for $15 as this gives access to the dictionary and lots of online material including quizzes, exercises and the like.
