Sensitive roommate issue. Wish they had just stayed with a community bath!!1

Dd19 has the same roommate she had last year. This year, they moved to a dorm that has a bathroom for each room. Dd has encountered a slight problem. Her roommate uses a lot of tp...As in they put in the last roll last night and it was gone by 11 a.m. today. Dd barely used any of it. I know..she either just sucks it up or addresses the issue. I suggested they each have their own. She doesn't want to risk upsetting roomie (who is a little sensitive about things sometimes). So, I guess we will just be buying a whole lot of tp. :glare: That community bath is really looking good right now. :laugh: But, how, how , how does one girl go through an entire roll of tp in half a day???? (When she was in class a good bit of that time!)

Well, um, at certain times of the month, it can be done. 

I'd have my own stash, if I were your daughter.  Also, buy the good, cushy stuff, like Cottonelle, and maybe she will use less.

This is what I thought! 

 

They are already using the good stuff. Dd is going to start going for the less expensive options. Problem is that they agreed to take turns purchasing when they run out. Dd will be providing roomy with about 8 rolls to the one dd consumes. I'm guessing she will end up having a difficult conversation about tp consumption sometime in the future. 

 

And, the time of the month isn't the problem. These girls are swimmers and on continuous bcp.

I'm one to use too much tp (working on changing that, as between me and the dc it got ridiculous, although not a full roll in half a day ridiculous), and my first roommate bought good stuff instead of just using the school-supplied cheapie stuff.  She brought it up to me nicely about using less or chipping in, and I started using the school stuff instead, with no hard feelings.

Is she using it instead of Kleenex?  Does she have a digestive issue causing frequent bathroom trips?  Maybe she had a bit of a stomach bug. 

 

I am a heavy TP user because I drink a lot of water and therefore it has to come out.  lol  But I don't think I could go through a roll a day!

I say they buy the biggest pack of TP available and split the cost, the added expense of extra TP is worth maintaining good roommate relations, I wouldn't bring up the issue if it is likely to embarrass the other girl.

TP isn't so expensive that it's worth fussing about. Rather, fussing about TP will just bring embarrassment on all sides. It's not really the sort of thing that is appropriate to legislate for another person who isn't your own child. Just buy the TP and be thankful that in other respects the girls get along well and like each other.

This is an extremely small cost compared to the value of a good relationship. I'd avoid any potentially hard or troubling conversations and just count this as roommate expense. This is really a little thing in perspective.

But, at 2 rolls of the good stuff a day!  :svengo:(They went back Monday of last week. Roomy had a 12 pk of double roll Charmin. It is gone as of this afternoon. So, technically that would be 4 rolls? Eh everything i buy tends to be double/I consider it single.) Dd had figured she wouldn't have to take her turn to provide until this weekend at the earliest. Last night as she put the last roll in, she told roomy that if it ran out she could give roomy $ to go get it herself. Dd doesn't have the time to go to the store (schedule from hell this semester). Or, there is supposedly somewhere in the dorm they can get the really crappy stuff to use for free. Dd cannot find that! She is coming home this weekend and planned on getting a big pack at Sam's of their generic. It is pretty good stuff. Storage is a problem though. But, yeah, I did suggest to her that it might just be better to just buy it. We'll see how much of an expense (not to mention hassle getting it) turns out to be.

When I was in college, the way people who had suite bathrooms got toilet paper was to take it from communal baths in other dorms and from bathrooms in other buildings (library, student union, etc). There was no supply of tp for people in suites.

Some TP is so cheap and thin, it can easily be used up very quickly.  Scott brand toilet paper is thicker and bigger and lasts much longer.  I think Target and other stores might have their own version of it.

I've got a cousin that can go through an entire roll of tp in one sitting on the toilet.

 

Her parents make her buy her own tp now.

I wouldn't bring up the issue of the tissue at all.  Besides being a potentially sensitive issue for the other girl, it's actually a kind of petty thing.  Wait....that came out sounding wrong....It can add up in price, certainly.  But of all the things that can go wrong with a roommate, that ranks right down there with an argument over brands of coffee to buy.  So I wouldn't say anything, but if it got prohibitively expensive, I'd get my own stash and that would be that.  What a crappy position to be in.  Snerk, snerk...

 

Also, I can see how you can blow through that much TP at that time of the month, depending on length of cycle and blood flow.
