Erica in OR
My oldest is in 9th grade this year. I had toyed with the idea of doing a half credit of P.E. this year and then an additional half credit next year. But, I looked at the high school group P.E. that our homeschool support group is offering this year, and the planning of 4 six-week units to cover four different sports neatly corresponds with roughly a quarter credit. We would probably then put in a similar time commitment for her remaining three years, with a quarter credit each year. Has anyone done this? Or does it just look weird on the transcript? EKS
My son's private school did a quarter credit for PE each year. They did an outdoor education thing for a week each year, and that was apparently considered 30-45 hours.
regentrude
My DD covered several of her electives with a quarter credit per year, for one full cumulative credit over the course of high school. This worked fine for PE, music history, art history, and computer skills. I explained our approach in the homeschool profile, and nobody questioned my transcript. Honestly, I highly doubt anybody will care how exactly you award the credit for PE
AmyontheFarm
I'm doing that for PE and Art. Since, I'm fairly confident that my ds won't be in a career that involves anything sports related nor art related, I think it is the least painful way of getting it done. Lori D.
We have spread out 1.0 credit over 2 or 3 years. Not a problem. :) Then on your transcript, just list your courses by subject rather than by grade/year, as it cleans up the "clutter" of lots of little partial credits every year, and makes it easier for the college admissions offices to figure out. Example of transcript listed by subject: MATH course . . . . . . . . . . . . . credit . . . grade Algebra 1. . . . . . . . 1.00 . . x Geometry . . . . . . . . 1.00 . . x Algebra 2 . . . . . . . .1.00 . . x Pre-Calculus . . . . . . 1.00 . . x TOTAL credits/GPA . . . . . . . . 4.00 . . x.xxxx SOCIAL STUDIES course . . . . . . . . . . . . . credit . . . grade World History . . . . . . 1.00 . . x American History . . . . . 1.00 . . x Government . . . . . . 0.50 . . x Economics . . . . . . . 0.50 . . x World Geography . . . . . 0.50 . . x TOTAL credits/GPA . . . . . . . . 3.50 . . x.xxxx ELECTIVES course . . . . . . . . . . . . . credit . . . grade PE . . . . . . . . . . 1.00 . . x Auto CAD* . . . . . . . 0.50 . . x Home Ec . . . . . . . . 1.00 . . x Logic . . . . . . . . . 1.00 . . x TOTAL credits/GPA . . . . . . . . 3.50 . . x.xxxx * = course taken at _____________ as dual enrollment Example of transcript listed by grade/year: 9th GRADE course . . . . . . . . . . . . . credit . . . grade English I. . . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x Algebra 1 . . . . . . . .0.50 . . . x Biology . . . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x World Geography . . . . 0.50 . . . x French I . . . . . . . .1.00 . . . x Fine Arts: Piano I . . . . 1.00 . . . x Elective: Logic . . . . . . 0.50 . . . x Elective: Home Ec . . . . 0.25 . . . x Elective: PE . . . . . . .0.25 . . . x TOTAL credits/GPA . . . . . . . . 6.00 . . x.xxxx 10th GRADE course . . . . . . . . . . . . . credit . . . grade English II . . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x Geometry . . . . . . . 0.50 . . . x Chemistry . . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x World History . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x French II . . . . . . . 1.00 . . . x Fine Arts: Piano II . . . . 1.00 . . . x Elective: Logic . . . . . . 0.50 . . . x Elective: Home Ec . . . . 0.25 . . . x Elective: PE . . . . . . .0.25 . . . x TOTAL credits/GPA . . . . . . . . 6.50 . . x.xxxx

Thanks for the detailed transcript examples, Lori. Great idea. We will have some other partial credits too over the years, like logic, so that would really streamline the listing.
