songsparrow
I would like to do a poem-of-the-day this year with my 8th grade daughter (to read out loud together). My exposure to poems is woefully lacking, though, so I don't have a wealth of favorite poems to draw on. (For that reason, I am looking forward to getting more poetry exposure, too.) Any suggestions for poems, poets, or resources (e.g., compilations)? Thanks! ETA: I did order the book 100 Best-Loved Poems (Dover Thrift Editions) as a starting point. Chris in VA
Are religious poems ok? I love The Donkey, by Chesterton--it's good for Palm Sunday/Holy Week ETA--I quoted the poem but had to take it out. Just google it--it's a lovely, short poem with a nice surprise twist. I found Living Memory, by Drew Campbell, to be a really good resource. It's on sale this week at that self-publishing website (Lulu or something?) birchbark
The Skeleton in Armor! Especially fascinating if you read about the archaeological finds that inspired it. I'm going to have my 8th grade DS memorize it this year.
