Anyone has school grade skip their child unrequested?

Recommended Posts

Not exactly.  When my kids were supposed to go into pre-K, they told me my oldest was going into KG instead, without my prior input.  I assume I could have refused.

When I switched schools at age 12, I was going into 8th grade but they put me in the 7th grade, probably because I had an October birthday (cutoff was 9/30 in those days).  I went to the office and got it corrected right away.

Is this at a public or private school? I would be surprised if they did it at a private school because they would lose a year of tuition. If it were at a public school I would look to see what the board policy is.  I can't believe they can skip your kids without you having input. Is this something you wanted or had asked for in the past? If not I would call the district and ask to speak to the head of student services.

Public. Their assigned public school put them in the wrong grades. Older was supposed to go to 5th. He was in 4th grade in the online public school and did algebra and 6th grade earth science. Younger was supposed to go to 3rd grade, and was in 2nd grade in the online public school completing 3rd grade curriculum and 5th grade math.

We went to the assigned middle school (6th-8th), got it sorted for older. Then went district office to sort PI transfer. Then to the assigned elementary school (K-5th) to get it resolved for younger. Never requested my district for grade skip.

They make a mistake somewhere and I guess they were confused by my kids student records from the virtual academy. Probably not use to returning students with my kids level of asynchrony. The grades assigned was correct when we went to the school office for proof of residency and verification of immunization in Feb.

So did it get sorted out correctly? Are they in 3rd and 5th grade now? It is surprising they assigned your older child to 6th grade when he is 9. He is on the young side of 5th grade (I am going to assume he has a fall birthday and is turning 10). Lots of 9 kids with fall birthdays would be in 4th grade depending on the state age cutoff or red shirting.

It is sorted out. My older entered K at 4yrs 8mths just meeting the old December 2nd cutoff. He spent K and 1st in B&M public school, 2nd to 4th at online public school. Logically he should go to 5th and that was what we registered for. The elementary school admin messed up for both kids.

My oldest son is transferring back into bricks and mortar public school after a year in a public virtual academy. I think public VA's are still unfamiliar to many administrators/registrars/school secretaries and it gets confusing for them. I haven't had the registration troubles you have but I have had to explain and reexplain a few details with our new school this summer.

I think you are probably right that those higher grade level courses on their manuscripts confused someone.
