Gabreial
I need help with my upcoming 8th grader. He has a passion for learning, but we are stuck in BJU mode for most of his studies ( we school year-round and will finish 7th in November). I'm feeling guilty, because I know I appreciate the classical more traditional mode as I feel like we're covering everything on paper, but he could be learning so much more, if I just let his eclectic side free. We worry about transcripts and high school, but I don't want him to hate school, which is what I've heard recently. This makes me sad, he used to love school. Space station
That is a hard thing to hear. What are his interests? Can you let him help you pick the subjects, curriculum, field trips, etc. if you can focus school more around his interests, maybe you can get more enthusiasm from him. Some things need to be check the boxes, but not everything. So what does he have a passion for learning? That might help us help you. momto2Cs
I agree. Look at his passion(s), then figure out how you can make that/those part of his curriculum. For example, my ds is very interested in (conceptual) physics, so that is a focus this year. He likes to tinker, so he does volunteer work at a local bike shop and will be working through The Art of the Catapult with his dad. I let him choose his own pre-algebra program for the year, he keeps up on writing 3 blogs (part of his writing "curriculum"), etc.
