x-post: Tablet Class Sale on now

Recommended Posts

Derek, are you using AoPS along with Tablet Class?

Yes, ds13 is using TC over the Summer as a follow-up to AoPS Algebra 1 (ch. 1-13).  While he liked AoPS he felt that he needed more practice overall.  AoPS tends to go deeper into concepts without as much general practice.  Some AoPS students find the need to follow-up with other supplemental materials.

Thanks!  We just bought Tablet Class with the sale, too, and I want to do the same.  So, how are you doing that?  Is he working through AoPS as his main task, and then just going through TC simultaneously?  Or going to the topics in TC that he is currently working on in AoPS?  I want to have a really good system set up when we start in a couple of weeks.  Thank you!

I think you could do it in a number of ways.  Instead of trying to synch up everything in parallel I find it easier to approach it asynchronously.  We actually did all AoPS first.  Then over the Summer with used TC as follow-up and review. With other programs we've used a hybrid supplemental approach using the spine for 4 days and then the supplement on Fridays.  Of course you can do another combo as well.  Just keep in mind that AoPS can take up a lot of time just working 'one' problem on certain days - over an hour.  So it would be hard to then do something else on top of it in the same day.

I was thinking of starting off with TC and being sure we had some basics down really well, and then trying to jump into AoPS.  I know he is going to love that approach, but I also want to make sure everything is really solid.  I got the powerpack, so I am just glad to have access to the whole kit.
