I'm attempting to plan this school year

Recommended Posts

I have all my required schooling dates planned and detailed lesson plans for a month.

Hopefully I will be able to keep up with my plans this go round. I didn't put exact pages on AAR or AAS...those are impossible to judge with my gals. Some days they just click and other days they hit brick walls. I also didn't plan audio books and personal reads. We always fell behind on those. I have the books planned. Just not what length of time or exact chapters.

My "exact" lessons detailed are math, english, sotw, spelling city review, typing and science..

I am going to admit suspecting insanity on my part. I plan and plan, and then my children either are bored or stumped. My planning gets me through something like two weeks. Right now, I've got our morning rotation (character, composer studies, music, and art), history, science, and MCT planned. Spelling is a bit of a mystery in terms of what will click and what won't, so my plan is "do the next thing."

Math is again annoying (I'm so bitter over this right now, so forgive me). DS8 has had another crying fit over math. It doesn't make sense why he has to learn it... there's no context for it... he won't need math when he opens his Nerf arena...  Bah. It took us 20 minutes to get through *five* reading a thermometer problems.  And he's made such progress this summer. I think we'll do McRuffy in the background for the games and skills (so I know what we need to cover in the year), Beast Academy (3A to start with), the Simply Charlotte Mason business math, and then just look for applied math projects for the rest of the time. I ordered Mythmatical Battles as a fun thing, but I think that's going to be an integral part of our learning adventure.

Here's to flexible planning! And proclick so plans can be updated without regret.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. !

We take so many rabbit trails in one week, that we end up in a totally different place than one I thought we would be so I do NOT plan Science, History for sure.

I do have a list of the topics we are covering and make sure we touch each topic along the way. But if they want to spend 2 weeks studying Jupiter then we stop and do that.

Math I just have to block out the time, and wait and see how quickly things happen.

I love my beautiful planner, and wish it could be all filled in for the whole year. For now I have to be happy blocking off the time.

Just never going to happen :)

I plan by writing down how many lessons are in a subject. Then I look at how many weeks we will do school. Then I write down how many lessons we need to complete per week to stay on track. And that's it. Too many variables to write it all in!

I just work toward our goal. Some weeks we do more per week and others less. But we are usually close to finishing by the end of the school year.

It's planning for lazy people. Lol
