Soror
So you guys know I have thyroid issues. I was feeling better as soon as I started my hormones and diet, consistent energy all day long. Then I got a cold and the baby stopped sleeping so my sleep was totally jacked for about a month. It took me a few weeks of getting used to sleep and started sleeping all night and I was feeling good again. Started my period last week- somewhat normal but short and lighter and since then my energy has been zapped. I'm finding myself falling asleep in the afternoon, like cannot keep my eyes open, even with a full nights sleep. Even doing the rest of the day my energy is not what it was, especially considering I'm sleeping all night now. I took a pregnancy test on Friday afternoon and it was negative (1 week after my period- so if that wasn't a period it should have shown positive by then). I ran out of my iron pills last week as I was awaiting results of my latest lab results, could stopping them be causing this, what do you think? melmichigan
Anemia could certainly cause it, and you would be more anemic after your period. That'd be my first guess based on what you've said.
Soror
Well, I have had tiredness for about 2 wks following my period since it returned. It was however better last month and I was hoping that my numbers we're up, which is why I let my iron supplement lapse. I bought some more yesterday, we'll see if that helps and hopefully I can reach the dr. to find out my numbers. Perhaps it is up but not enough yet. Tiramisu
I hope your energy comes back, soror. It makes everything harder when you feel that way. :grouphug:
TammyS
I would look at anemia and B-vit deficiencies. Also, if you are doing much exercise, make sure that you are fueling yourself properly, especially in the protein dept. Personally, I can get through a menstrual cycle without some red meat. Nothing is like red meat for getting the blood back up.
Soror
I'm eating tons of red meat and have been, it is just that I haven't been absorbing very well due to various issues. I was having some difficulty with my new B vitamins but have started them back again. The last my b was tested it wasn't super low but could be higher. I think I'm getting enough protein, it is hard to say with absorption issues though. Hopefully I hear back from the dr today so I have an idea if I'm improving at all. I was actually feeling really good and then my cycle hit and then I ran out of iron, coincidentally or not I tanked after that. I went back to my high iron/c b-fast this am as I had switched it up lately, beef patties with kale and grapefruit as the c helps with the absorption of the iron. I've got my pills as well which are the highly absorbable form but I have to take them later as I have to time it around thyroid meds. Soror
I got some of my results yesterday, my ferritin is up 30 pts but still not quite high enough, so that is good I am improving but evidently still have a ways to go. I did feel more energetic yesterday, I don't know if that was starting back on iron or not.
Tiramisu
I got some of my results yesterday, my ferritin is up 30 pts but still not quite high enough, so that is good I am improving but evidently still have a ways to go. I did feel more energetic yesterday, I don't know if that was starting back on iron or not. I'm happy to hear your ferritin is higher! It's interesting about the B's. I've been supplementing B12 for years due to a deficiency, and I have been happy with the improvement but still more fatigued than I would like. My doctor will be investigating some heart and autoimmune questions that might explain my pain and fatigue, but he told me he wants my B12 levels much higher that they are now, even though they are currently in the normal range. He is a mainstream and not an alternative doc so I found it interesting that he felt so strongly. If my B12 levels come back in the same range that they've been, he wants to start shots and I'm actually thrilled about that possibility because I know B12 has made such a difference to me already.
