I'm back! Homeschooling again. Anyone still here from the old days?

My eldest is headed off to college (eek), and my middle son will be a junior at a local charter school.  The little one (not so little anymore) is coming home full time.  My 9yodd and I are jumping into Classical Conversations in a few weeks. We're excited.  We've been homeschooling half days for a couple years (public school in mornings), but we're going to get off the fence.  CC seems to be a good fit for us to do the classical education I did with the olders, but without the loneliness element, and hopefully without the burnout.  :o)

Have I missed anything?

I'm guessing yes. How long have you been missing? You probably don't know about cupcakes. I hope you know about kilts and what TeA is, but I can't be certain.

There have been losses and tragedies.

I notice from you siggy that your kids ages are similar to mine. This fall will be the first time I homeschool only one child (the 9yo).

Welcome back...if Lisa's an old timer, I shudder to think.  (I pre-date the board change by several years.)

Mine have graduated, but I still check in, because many of us are navigating life together ;-) ,  and because I love the differing perspectives I get here.

Glad to see you again.  (...waves energetically, then heads off to nap.  JK.)

:seeya:  Welcome back! I recognized your avatar--thanks for using the same one, There are a lot of us "old-timers" still on the boards. Our dc are similar ages: my oldest will be a sophomore in college, my middle starts 11th grade next week at private school, and my 9yo will continue to be homeschooled. I look forward to seeing you around the boards!

I went to my profile, and it says I've been an active member since 2008, but it seems longer than that.  ???  My oldest would have been in 4th grade, and that's when we tested out K12, and I remember I had been on here for a few years before that.

Anyway, welcome back!  Your avatar looks familiar, so I must have "seen" you before.

The membership date didn't backdate to the old style board. ;) The new BB style board came about in 2008, that is when we got (semi)permanent usernames and all of that.

I too was on the old boards.  Does that make me "old?" I'm trying to remember when I found the board.  I was living in FL at the time.....so......12ish years ago.

12 years!!!!!  Yikes!!!!!!  I had not thought about that before.........maybe I am old :coolgleamA:

OK, so the self proclaimed old timers are showing "since 2008" also.  I guess that doesn't mean anything unless you joined after 2008.

I think 2008 is when the boards moved to the current format.

Hi, Suzanne!

I'm on my way out, I suppose, since my son is graduating and heading to college in a few weeks. But it's nice to see you!

Wow!  Hi everyone!

I'm surprised to see so many of you here.  I joined the old boards (the ones that went UP) back in 2000.  I remember the first "off topic" post I shared, asking for advice on how to teach my (then 6yo, now 18yo) how to ride a bike.  :o)  Back then, we all stayed on topic, I guess.

Anyway, it is good to be back, though there is so much to keep up with!  I tried to post to the Sale-Swap board, and it wouldn't let me because "You need to make a post to the boards before you can do that".  I was, like, I have over 3000 posts!  What more do you want?  So, I came here and posted.  Didn't expect to hear from so many of you!

I'm sorry to hear about the tragic things so many have been going through.  We've had some scares and hard stuff (mostly with my mom), but she and we are all healthy right now.  Trying to figure out what next year is going to look like.  It's all good, though.

Jeans Trump Kilts:  Hmmmm.  BooKs, I remember.  TeA?  not so sure.  And I definitely need to be brought into the loop regarding kilts.

2008 was when the new board format kicked in. So you were probably correct in thinking that you were a member previously. I think. Maybe not. At any rate, I confirm your right to have a different memory.

Suzanne, I have lost my fabulous laundry room and no longer iron all my clothes. Will you still be my friend?

Do not be fooled by the "member since" I've been around since the early 2000's.  I can not remember exactly when.  Probably 2001/2002

Well, your son may be leaving but you don't have to! The ever-present wisdom on this board transcendents and exceeds homeschooling years...Does anyone remember what a fuss we made when the board format changed?  :)

Yes, of course I will!  I use my iron mostly for Perler beads these days.  :)

How's your son?  What's he doing these days?  My dd got into a really good independent private high school, purely because of her "Exemplary writing", which she attributes to Classical Writing, which I attribute to you!  She hated it at the time she was doing it, but she is glad she did, and she's encouraging me to make her little sister do it as well.

That was four years ago, though.  Now she's off to college, to be an electrical engineer.  But, she'll be an engineer who can write well.  Not often a good combination.  ;)

Hi Cinder,

I remember your name, not your avatar.  :)

I thought about changing mine, since I feel like I'm a liar to make people think I still look like that (that was 8 years ago, and my dd's 10th birthday).  But, if it makes me easier to remember, and everyone needs a little help remembering (right), it would be a disservice to update it.  :)

I remember you! I've been on since 2008 even though I know it says everyone was on since 2008. I happened to be one of the lucky ones who joined that year after the boards changed, so my joined dates is accurate.

Did you miss the shopping carts, shoes in the house, and crock pot drama?
