lewelma
We just started today, and I am confused about the correction methodology. Do I write the answer in multicolour pen on a little white board after every word or only after the ones he misses. Do I have a little conversation about the missed word, or just write it, have him correct it, and move on? He only missed 3 words in the first day (I compacted the first 5 short days in level 1), so was not sure if I was suppose to be writing more on the board, or talking more about the pattern. Also, is the ending 'inner' in 'beginner' or just 'in', with the suffix, 'er', a different color? And if so, what color is the double 'n'? Seems like there is the rime which is distinct from the suffix, but perhaps I'm not supposed to differentiate with different colors? Thanks, Ruth in NZ
zarabellesmom
I only write words that need correcting, though some may do all. I would probably have written the word begin in one color, pause here and quickly say, we double the consonant before adding a vowel suffix, write the second n in the same color, and then write the vowel suffix in a different color. I'm certain others do it differently.

Incognito
I didn't change color for the doubled n, but did for the er. I may have underlined it when it first came up, I don't remember. It's whatever you think will be most useful. I have written all the words and spelled them outloud as I've done it and they read the word in their minds, then they self correct if they need to. They get success mixed in with the need to correct that way. If I see they have spelled it right, I sometimes just have them spell it outloud for us. lewelma
Thanks everyone! Well, he didn't miss a single word today, so we just kept going. Finished in 6 minutes. Will use the methods you guys outlined when it gets harder.
