sadiepol
We are using The Story of the World for history this year (gr 1-2). We'll use the English text, and discuss in French. I am trying to find a French equivalent to the Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, and a good French atlas. Any recommendations?
thegirlwhopaintedtrees
This is what I am doing as well. I found L'imagerie de L'histoire fit our needs. (that's an affiliate link). I am also doing the same with Elemental Science and using other L'imagerie de... titles for the French version. It is not too detailed, but my students are French second language learners and while they understand French, it is limited mostly to directives and very simple conversation about their day, so for us, L'imagerie was just right. Monica_in_Switzerland
Another vote for Imagerie de l'Histoire. If your kids are a bit older, they can do the Lectures Thematiques from Hachette- there are four books for history. They are not comprehensive, but offer themed units with reading for various events in history, presented in chronological order. There is also a series of historical fiction called "La veritable histoire de..." that's probably aimed at the 1-4th grade crowd. The books are fictional, but each chapter ends with a one page historical explanation that might go into customs, food, armor, etc, etc, whatever is relevant to that chapter of the book. They are short books for early readers, but are great supplements to any history. All of the Imagerie books are really well done, IMO- we have a number of the science ones as well. bibiche
Not a book, but a site that you might find useful: http://www.tableau-noir.net/sommaire_histoire.html ETA and there is this, too: http://www.academie-en-ligne.fr/Ecole/Ressources.aspx?PREFIXE=AL5HG03
sadiepol
Thanks. I'll check these out. Can anyone recommend a good French atlas? Many of the ones I've seen have too many pictures and symbols to leave a clear view of the land.
