bakpak
This is really just a brag post, but also encouragement to others out there trying to teach multiple languages. I've been encouraging Spanish language acquisition with DD for years. I'm not fluent, but I do my best. I started letting Spanish slip a bit when I started working full-time last year, but have lately tried to make it daily exposure again. Anyway, letting my DD watch more Spanish videos lately and trying to read something to her every day or two has really helped. Lately she's started picking up bilingual books and trying to muddle through reading the Spanish portions with me, either repeating after me, or trying it on her own. She's so excited to start reading Spanish and she's seriously not starting small (3rd grade level books)! Her English reading level is 5th grade+, so maybe she's just looking for challenge in reading and has switched to Spanish to get that challenge, but I'm thrilled with her initiative and she is too. I've always worried that all that effort I put in during the early years wouldn't become child-led as much as I hoped, but that's not been the case with my language-loving DD. She's been asking for French again and I picked up some more children's books recently for when we're ready to tackle that, but I'm trying to focus on the Spanish right now. She looked through one of the French books and was excited to realize she could figure out lots of the cognates from English/Spanish. I love being able to share my love of languages with her. Anyway, hope this story encourages others out there to keep at it....it's worth the effort!

bakpak
Great to hear! My sweet girl said she wanted to learn some sign language earlier this week, and fortunately we had a cute children's book hiding out on a bookshelf that we've been messing with at breakfasts. She also brought me a little board book in French today and we read that successfully! It's fun to have a little language buddy. :D I think it's also proven useful to just have LOTS of foreign language resources lying around. Hehe, that's what I keep telling myself at used book stores!
