Anyone have a list or know of one posted somewhere? This is for sil who is just starting homeschool. They don't have tv. She's looking for things she can get from netflix or at the library. I told her about United Streaming.

I found a list at Paula's, but it's too advanced.

TIA

A great book for her to look for would be "Learning with the Movies" by Beth Holland. It lists all types of educational movies by subject. I have a 1st & 3rd grader and there were quite a lot of choices for that age range. There is also this website:

These may be too old for elementary age, but she can wade through and see.

Nature documentaries. There are zillions on Netflix and my dc and us grownups always enjoy them. It is a lovely way to fill a long car ride (if you have DVD) or spend a quiet evening. The kids love them so much. The reviews on netflix help me pick promising ones and we are rarely disappointed. The Galapogos Islands ones were a recent lovely find. Soooo cool!

It may sound silly, but my kids (and I) have learned a lot from the Magic School Bus DVDs. The kids LOVE them. After we watch an episode I ask them to tell me two things they learned, and the retention is amazing.

:iagree: Both of my girls love MSB. I use the episodes to add on to science and even history sometimes (like All Dried Up).

They also adore the School House Rock DVD.

My kids have loved Bill Nye videos from the library. It's a shame they're so expensive or I'd buy them to have at home.

Another big hit here is the Electric Company. It's a blast from the past, but it does reinforce reading skills beyond the K/1 level and who can resist the clothes!?!
