pjssully
Hi, Looking for a curriculum that is relatively open and go for Hebrew for 7th grader. He has done a bit of Latin and now wants to try some Hebrew. Any suggestions? pam
Slache
Good luck with that. Check out http://www.alefpress.org/. I've heard some homeschoolers will enroll their kids in classes at the local synagogues, but I don't actually know anyone that has.
YaelAldrich
Do you want Biblical Hebrew and no pronunciation, just reading? I have tried a bunch of books (I am an Orthodox Jew) and have settled on Beginning Biblical Hebrew by Cook and Holmstedt http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-Biblical-Hebrew-Grammar-Illustrated/dp/0801048869/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1402676360&sr=1-1&keywords=cook+and+holmstedt. It's a college text but not too difficult for my 12yo. He has a good grasp of Hebrew but I wanted him to work on grammar (which no Jewish school does!) and I found this textbook solid and open and go for him. It has cartoon descriptions of Biblical stories to read and translate. There is also a Teacher's Guide/Answer Key to get from the publlsher (Baker Academic); it's free but you have to request it. I started my 12 yo on it this year and the 10 yo right before summer break; they will return to it later this summer.
HollyDay
I used Zola's Introduction to Hebrew: http://store.levitt.com/HP
ViC
Hello, I would second Alef Press. Their books are available at Rainbow Resource now (little less $). Also another source is EKS Publishing at www.ekspublishing.com. I hope this helps. Viola
laughing lioness
My dh is learning Hebrew using RS. He's learned German and Greek the textbook route and loves RS. The only problem I see using it with younger kids is that it is sometimes glitches in picking up soft, young voices on the microphone.
