Hi,

I am looking ahead to next year and I have Memoria Press First Form Latin, Rod Staff Grammar, and Classical Writing scheduled.  There is more grammar incorporated into First Form Latin than I had originally thought, and using it with R & S Grammar feels a bit much.  For those who have used First Form Latin what do you do for grammar?

I have found that with my son having grammar in English and then the same grammar in Latin is actually really helpful.  It gave him direct meaning as to why he was learning what he was learning, and it showed him that the grammar can be applied to many difference places.   The dual program approach actually made it stick really well.  He had to learn it in English and apply it in Latin. Next year will be our third year of really studying Latin and it is the first one where I am considering dropping grammar work.

Currently with FFL I was and will continue using First Language Lessons 4. For whatever reason, they seemed to tie in very well with what we were studying in Latin.

When we run out of that I'll probably go with KISS since it is free, and do diagramming on the side. CW Homer which they are to transition into late in the year uses Harvey's, and I like it, so I will probably have them go with that.

I know MP has a grammar program that is designed to be somewhat light (probably a good bit of recitation!) because of the amount of grammar involved in learning Latin.

We do both Latin and grammar.

DC have learned so much more grammar in English than if they had only learned it in Latin.

Plus, I consider Latin a separate subject - it would never replace grammar for us.
