Tell me your experience with Mr. Q Science!

Recommended Posts

My dd13 is looking at the Adv. Anatomy & Physiology for her transition year before 9th grade.... We have been all over the place these last couple months trying to decide her science route. (She has been torn b/w Chemistry and Anatomy. We could do both.... One semester chem/then last semester anatomy) she would rather do one or the other AND she particularly liked this one...... Any thoughts on this course? http://eequalsmcq.com/AnPChapterDwnld.htm

Was it a pretty smooth year for you?

Were supplies easy to gather?

Was it meaty enough as a stand alone?

Will it prepare for high school level science?

Did you print out the student book or read from a computer?

Note: We will be listening to "Nutrition Made Clear" as a family and dd will be reading books/discussing girls health, puberty, sex ed.

** I do have a Prentice Hall SE Human Body & Health book, The Way We Work, Gray's Anatomy Coloring book, and lots of encyclopedias. These are all great books for a year of Anatomy, but it seems too messy. I feel she would learn more with a more well put together year like in Mr. Q's course. You have probably noticed that I am ALWAYS on here about science! ** Help this gal out, pleeeeease!

Thoughts appreciated! Thank you!

I have only used it for elementary so I can only answer from that perspective.  The supplies were easy to gather.  I do much, much, much better if I gather almost everything in a box at the beginning of the year, except for things that I have in the house all of the time (eg., salt, baking soda).  My child read off of the computer screen.  I only printed the activity sheets and some of the labs.  Most we just read off the screen.   I prefer a printed book, but I'm adjusting!

I did just plan a year for my rising 4th grader adding in other books to support Mr. Q.  That's not because it's not meaty enough, but that's how we like to do things (using lots of sources.)

I hope someone using it with older kids can answer your questions.

I have never used Mr. Q Anatomy, but we did use Biology, Earth Science and Adv. Chem.

I'll admit to not being the best about labs.  I think she did some for Bio and Earth Science, but not all.  I'll agree with the PP who said if you want them to get done, gather all materials ahead of time.

I really loved Adv. Chem.  The labs weren't an issue, as I signed her up for a Chem Lab class.  The class was all labs, though, so I used the Mr. Q as the teaching.  It was meatier than I expected after doing just the elementary levels.   I like that it came with tests.  For someone more proactive than I, I think the labs would be very doable, as they are all kitchen/cooking labs that illustrate the chemistry.
